Description
Tutorial based on [link]Manga style watercolor is a simpler way to start because you can usually do your base color and shadows with the same color (just vary the amount of water).
This was done on smooth/hot press 140 lbs watercolor paper over a drawing in waterproof ink. I use M Graham tube watercolors.
The important thing to remember is that with each step/layer I let the paint dry before adding more. Once you get the hang of that you can add in blending with water.
When I do the highlights with white watercolor it's usually pretty thick, with hardly any water added.

Yeah, CLAMP actually uses copics, but you can get the same look with watercolor if you're careful.

I know this tutorial is old and everything but I just have to ask something: Which sized paper do you use? A4 or A3?
Great tutorial ~

It was probably 8x10 inches. I never can remember which A4 and A3 are.

Okay thank you I think that's A4. A3 is bigger than A4

Yeah you need paper made for watercolor and even that wrinkles when it's heavy. I tape the edges down to drawing board or something first.

This is my favorite watercolor tutorial so far; it breaks it down very nicely. The eye and hair break-down is especially awesome.

No, but if you search tutorials on DA I bet you can find some. Usually if you go by most popular they are more helpful (but not always)

Oh, those should work. Just make sure you test it on a scrap if you're going to watercolor over it. I use a dip pen and waterproof ink in a bottle.

I wub you and your tutorial! I fav it!
Also, what size brushes you use? I'm having a hard time coloring the eyes with mine (size 2, Reeve Bristle hair brush). >_<;

MeredithDillman In reply to SvenHart [2007-07-06 16:06:49 +0000 UTC]
Depends what size your drawing is. I have lots of tiny 1 and 0 size I use larger like 2-4 if the area I'm coloring is big enough.
