Description

German Kaiserreich 1888.

Retired soldier, philanthropist and adventurer 'Rittmeister‘Lutz Herman Jost von Auerhammer is more than surprised when his former lover and Milanese spy, the mysterious and seductive Anna Lucretia Modena, comes to him for help, presenting an exotic story consisting of a mad scientist, an airship lost in Africa, Voodoo magick, and a wild treasure hunt all mixed in. In his country home near Hessian Staufenberg Lutz Herman discusses matters with his closest friends: East Prussian hussar Fritz David Lange, also field agent of the Central-Nachrichten-Bureau, Bismarck’s own secret service, and retired Confederate States Colonel Samuel B. Frost, American adventurer and enthusiastic huntsman.

The events that follow will plunge the friends into a dire venture, where fateful incidents not only will endanger the hardy band of adventurers, but threaten the welfare of whole nations, as the capricious balance of the Great Powers of Europe may be overthrown by a hideous zombie apocalypse emerging from the jungles of the Dark Continent. Wielding guns and sabres against treachery, savage tribesmen, double-dealing villains and scientific ingenuity akin to dark sorcery, the friends will uncover a plot intended to change the course of history…

Fine liner drawing on tea-stained paper; additional high-lighting markers. This piece was made for ’s THE ADVENTURE BEGINS contest. The idea was indeed sprung by Sylwia Telari’s contest description. I have done some adventure group drawings during the years (see here fav.me/d1uh0lb ), and I really wanted to do one not medieval/fantasy-oriented, but set in a Victorian/German Empire Age background. Further inspiration came by my old friend Olaf Möhle, who indulged himself into an alternate history project set in late 19th Century Germany, giving me the opportunity to dream and create accordingly.

The characters in the picture are modeled after existing persons. The room depicted is my actual dining room. Some storytelling might follow.
