Because this was too far underexposed (shot in the dark shadows) to give me the detail and color I'd prefer, I still have to say I like this "painterly" effect. I don't click on a "painterly" toggle that triggers a template. I experiment around mostly with slider-bars looking for what might pass as art, (if not the ideal photo.) My thinking often is, "Were this a painting would you feel good about it?" (Not saying it's wonderful but I think it's admirable.) The ovalness of the bird's body cries out to the artist's eye were they to go about drawing the bird from this angle. The depth of the bird, from fore-aft is compressed a bit by my telephoto lens, giving this bird a loveable, almost "toy-like" appearance.
