because i have to get out of my artist's block somehow, i've sort of started doing sketching exercises lately. since they're just exercises, i do anything from free-doodling to digital tracing; in this case, i just 'happened to have' a cute pic of ryan lying around...
...okay, so the only bishie i have as many pics of on my compy is gackt, but that's beside the point.tracing from a photograph is a great way to work your modeling and hatching skills; in fact, it's one of the best ways i know to practice picking out your lights and darks in terms of oblique planes. also, it's a lot harder than you might think. XD

I drew a portrait of him yesterday in pencil... the image I have suck because my scanner is broken so it's an iPhone photo but yeah... haha I FAIL at hatching. you're lucky you can do it. I depend on blending. haha

don't worry, it took me a long time and a lot of practice to move from blending to hatching while i was training to be able to ink my own stuff. i'm still too impatient to ink any of my non-digital work, though.

and here i was starting to think i should have sketched him in red.
but purple is my usual color of choice, so that's what was on my brush when i started sketching him. he does look surprisingly right in purple...a little mellow, a little magical, a little eccentric...

and very rofl -- i cracked up so many times, i lost count; mostly because of the many "why me?" and "wtf?" faces ryan made throughout the flick. and then there was the typical confession/resolution speech at the end, that formulaically has to end in true love and a kiss, and he spent like five seconds making the most adorable Sad Puppy Face, and the whole time i was going "OMG, stop with the SPF and kiss her already!" XD

(no, haven't seen it yet, but definitely going to. heard there was amusing non-graphic nudity. [and i was like 'yeah, sure, how can it not be funny to watch sandra and ryan collide naked at high speed? o_o'])
