Description
like it says: Things I Wish Someone Had Told Me About OpenCanvasbecause i always see tutorials about making the art or doing effects on the art, but rarely about how to use the program itself.
please forgive the large size, but i wanted this to be thorough, detailed, and step-by-step. this is meant to be a tutorial for those who are just beginning to use openCanvas (or who have been using it but would like to learn more), so be aware that it is aimed at people who have no openCanvas knowledge.
PART TEN of the Pen Window tutorials! (last one -- next are a pair of Layer Blending tutorials)
the Gradient tool is a strange animal that can be unwieldy at first. it has its own control window, just like Tone (but Ctrl+8 instead of Ctrl+9). it only works for pen, airbrush, and watercolor, and works something like a "scratchboard" -- that is, there is an invisible "bottom" layer filled with the gradient pattern, and the pen tools "scratch away" at the layers to reveal that "bottom" layer (you may have done something similar in art class, coloring a piece of paper and then covering it with black grayon, then scratching through the black crayon to draw pictures with rainbow-colored lines). personally, i am not very experienced or confident with the Gradient tool, so i tend to stick with painting my stuff and using Gaussian Blur to blend the colors where necessary. it takes lots of practice to be able to properly manipulate the Gradient tool.
feel free to show this to your friends, or anybody curious about openCanvas! ^_^
