Sigh, my Internet line crushed yesterday, and they haven't repaired it yet T_T so I'm posting this drawing from my workplace.
The bridge looks horrible. If I was an architect, I'd definitely be shot by the angry citizens >.<

I tried a simple model first, referring to some Google pics in some details. The bridge itself was not too hard, as I used a liner to measure stuff...but the shading on the ground was killing me dead, since the source of light was outside the picture frame. I had to draw arrows on the ground, so that I could do everything right ^^'

I tried making the pencil shading as smooth as possible. Also, I finally gathered enough courage to do some basic 1-point perspective. I'm lame at it OTL.

It makes me go a lil' bit melancholic, along with "Shorebound". And the music is freaking awesome!!!

Okay...I finally feel ready to talk about this one. I had to think about it for a while because it's...well...the theme of it is a bit complicated. *braces for a hard-core bucket smacking*
First I'm going to say that this piece is extremely impressive. I don't have the right words for it, but...darn, how do I say it...the subtle shading of the sky, how you altered the contrast in key places...I can't see how you can have so much control over that pencil. It's just amazing, how careful the shading is, how precise it is. And the shading on the bridge (shown better in the smaller view)makes that wood seem real. It's really the only thing in the picture that seems solid and from our world. Seems like you and Sean are in this alternate reality. Your faces...they're pensive, melancholic. There's a small hint of sadness that runs through this picture. But you're holding hands too...it just seems like you both are alone...or isolated...like, you don't belong somewhere. But there on that bridge, because you're holding hands like that...in that way you are able to exert your existence, but only quietly. It seems...just like you guys are quietly holding together. But then your facial expressions show that it's this intense bond, that you've become part of each other, eternally. But still...that sadness, that sense of nostalgia I'm getting from this image...it's haunting. Well, not haunting...just...it stays with me, the feeling of this picture.
Through this picture I can feel the last days of summer receding into what will become the forgotten past...it has the feel of late afternoon in autumn, when things are beginning to slowly die...the waiting time before death.
But still there are those animal-shaped clouds in the sky. I mean, judging by the rest of the picture they're almost parodic. But in truth...they inspire in the viewer of this image a last hope...a small token.
When I think about the layout of this piece...it astounds me how simple the images are but how profound their meanings are altogether. I mean...it's just genius. I wish...I really wish I could be at this level. I don't think I could ever create something with this much depth. I could write an essay on this picture, that's how rich it is.
Theme aside, what impressed me most about this picture was the light that the sun cast on the bridge (that clear white space), and the soft shadows cast by the poles of the bridge. It's so...beautiful..my weak vocabulary can't even express the impression just those details make on me. That fading light...the end of summer...slow death...the time for deep reflection...those concepts dominate my mind even just by looking at the shading. Makes me remember my summers when I was younger, makes me remember my experiences of the closing day.
And the cloud closest to the water has such realistic shading, such depth...so beautiful.
But most of all I love that light reflecting on the water. You did such an excellent job on the waves, and the reflection of the light off of them. Really reminds me of the past...that comfortable past...
God...I love this picture.
And it's cute how you're standing in Sean's shadow like that....*___* The girl doesn't look fragile or anything, not vulnerable either. She's equal to the guy...very interesting. At the same time I bet she likes being under his shadow.
(jeez...I really hope it is you and sean on that bridge O__O)
Anyway, thanks so much for this submission. Maybe if I study my whole life I'll be able to reach this point...but I lack your finesse and originality. So once again, thanks so much!! I really enjoyed experiencing this picture. And I thought about it all the time during class...I'll tell you, it was killing me. O__O

I wanted the ones who look at it feel a bit sad. It's the last sunset of the summer, and all the miracles are going away, leaving the people behind. And really, better take a look at that link there in my comments. It's a YouTube link, you won't have to download anything...it just adds to the feeling of the drawing, the music is so breathtakingly soft, and the words are sad.
And yes, I wanted to show that we are alone there, no-one around...and the world is leaving us behind, kind of like; we're falling out of it, and we feel frail.
well, I don't think I'm on a high level or anything, I can only tell you that those images come fromt he heart...I see something, and I feel something, and I put all my time into it. Idk how to explain, I just put a tiny bit of my own soul into every emotional drawing of mine, they're like my children. That's why it's so hard to give them to someome, I feel like parts of me are taken away.

All right, I listened to the song while I looked at the picture. Now it's even harder to describe. I can only say simply that the picture has the feel of the last days of summer. Also the beginning instrumental part of the song accented the bright light coming in on the ground and over the sea's surface. *___* really, really nice~.
But without the song it's definitely a sadder picture.
You don't think they're on a high level in terms of technical or aesthetic beauty because...you can't have an outsiders look. If the image is deeply personal to you...you might not be able to see beyond those memories and ideas that made you draw the picture in the first place. I'm not thinking waaay to muuuch about your art...it's just...I've never looked at a picture and said to myself "oh, there's a girl and a guy and some nice clouds." Pictures run deeper than that. Deeper even than what the original artist may have intended. I mean, just the balances of softness in this picture, the lighting, takes an excellent eye to achieve. I'm not just saying this. It's something I really believe in.
