Description
This piece of cherry has been slowly drying for about a month and a half now. Since it was turned down to it's final thickness I figured I'd pull it out and let it dry in a warmer environment. I'll still keep it in a paper bag though. If it doesn't crack it should be a very unique piece. A lot of interesting grain going on along with the bark inclusion. I'll have to sand it off of the lathe though since it's all warped (in a wonderful way). Also, the final color will be much deeper than the paleness you see at this stage.Related content

Given how thin I turned this down I'm starting to think it is way drier than expected. It has already warped a lot and there are no signs of cracking. I'm sanding it down by hand right now and some wonderful grain is appearing. It's going back in the bag tonight but I'm gonna watch it like a hawk. The only downside I can see is that the wood has not had time for it's color to come out completely. Think I'll keep it on the shelf for a while and keep oiling it until it's ready.

Thanks! As I write this i'm sanding in down by hand. It may be drier than I previously thought. If it doesn't crack I may have a finished piece soon. Still curious why it is so pale. Hopefully the oil will bring some color out. Of course it will darken with age.
