Neat!
I should try something like that, if I ever get back into designing new bowls...

Thanks man! I have to say there was no "design" involved. I just glued a bunch of wood together and turned it. Definitely worth playing around this way though. All it costs is the price of glue and your time

Hmm, this worked, but that's probably because of the two-tones working for you, looking at PennState's recycled and pieced together blanks, I'm not sure going overboard works so well...

I agree, going overboard is unlikely to result in a great piece of art. In fact, I think most of my pieces made this way are quite tacky...If people like them I'm not about to complain I just find that they are a good way to experiment.

Oh yes, a great experiment. I find they have a kind of modern art about them too. But few compare to more...organized pieces, or even single piece bowls.

Grab some glue and some clamps and have at it! I don't really like the designs but I learn a lot about grain, patterns, rotation etc. Just make sure you use good glue. Titebond 2 FTW!

Just got a bottle but now I need a place to set up my lath

Right now I am working on steam bending cedar

I am told that by sanding it and than coating it with clear urethane you can keep the color. We shall soon see

Nice, So far my test has shown that linseed oil and 3 to 5 coats of poly hold the color quite well. Some of the lovely purple hues have faded a tad though.

Thanks! I haven't tried ebay yet but I'm thinking of giving it a shot. It's really tough trying to find the right price.

Yea, that's tough. I just looked on ebay, and there is a alot of people selling wooden bowls. I always start the bidding at the minimum I would accept for the item and let the bidders take it from there. Has worked pretty good for me. Hit me up if you decide to do it and I might bid on one.
