Description Dry, semi-dry and sealed stock ready for the lathe. Also a bunch of "By product" in the background. I really like the planning process with woodturning. I try to keep enough inventory drying so that I never run out. I can't wait to dig into the second row of Apple. My goal is to make a matching set of 1/2 dozen personal bowls. The color and grain is wonderful but it smells awful. Kinda like someone pee'd on a dead cat

lol. Yeah I know I am lucky..that's why I insist on taking advantage of it. Basically, my folks have about 60 acres of wooded land so I can keep busy with stuff that falls down. There is very little figured wood though. Oddly enough, I was talking to their neighbor today and he saaid that if I find anything down that I can use it's mine. He's got 300 acres of mixed hardwoods >.šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

BTW, if you are ever in my neck of the woods feel free to swing by and cut some logs. I'm really not kidding when I say that I have more than I could ever use. Just bring along some anchor seal..I'm running low ATM I'm in colrain, MA which is just north of Greenfield. Not sure how far that is. Bring a friend too!

Ah. I don't know the area too well but I'm sure I've through on my way to Winnepasaukee (however the hell it's spelled?).

Nod, I sometimes wish I was back in college..best days of my life! As for tools I have a set of really cheap ones that I bought with my lathe. I've ground them into custom scrapers for the most part. I also have a 3/8 Sorbey gouge but am in desperate need of better tools. I'm sure that you know a hell of a lot more about metals than I do but I have always been under the impression that stainless will not hold as sharp an edge as good old fashioned steel. The fact that your tools rust might be a good thing! I would love to get my hands on some old tools like yours. Until then I might have to drop some money on a heavy 1/2" bowl gouge...Yikes, they are like 80 freakin' bucks!
