Description I made this from a Log of Eastern Red Cedar that's been seasoning for many years. I had hoped to make a bowl with it but it was cracked all the way down the trunk. This was the biggest chunk I had to work with. It's only about 2-3/4x5". I would love to get my hands on a good large piece to work with as I love the color. Also the smell is very aromatic. I REALLY have to get some oil on this as the color is already starting to fade.

just curious, how tricky is it to turn green wood? Quality seasoned stock is way too expensive for a noob like me. Green wood is free and I can burn the rest for heat hehe.

Well it depends on the wood... i know it is probably what everyone says... some wood is easy but you always have to wait up to 6 months to deal with the piece that you have turned till it is dry ... ive been told into a plastic bag for 6 months but even still you lose many pieces to cracking in the drying process... green wood is easy but has many risks ... i go to a lumber yard and buy the left over pieces for $1 a pound and get all sorts of wood for a fraction of a price they would be. one thing you could do is dry ur green wood and get many different unique pieces of wood from just drying some and turning them with any piece just make sure ur tool is sharp and learn to hear when the tool is dull and learn the wood ur using .... and other questions dont hesitate to ask ....

Yup, I'm asking lol. I've been working without a chuck and it is annoying. Just curious what type of chuck set you would suggest. my lathe can handle about 12" stock so it's kinda puny. any more of your advice would be much appreciated!

I just looked it up and that tool seems just about right for me. Most likely I'll be ordering one soon. Can't wait to play with it

well you could get a face plate and screw in but then you have to glue on pine or a cheaper wood but if you get the midi nova chuck it has saved me alot of money just not having to buy pine

Yeah, that's how I'm working now. I have plenty of pine scrap so cost is no issue but it just seems like an annoying extra step gluing things up for every piece.
