Description

The Elloria are a mysterious race of mermaids that have only made their way to the surface within the last few decades. They keep their past shrouded in mystery. A sudden rampage of deep sea monsters drove many of them from their homes under the waves, and few Elloria cities remain the bustling centers of activity they once were.

All Elloria are rather flat-faced, and are tall compared to most land-based races. They can breath in water, though breathing in air is much more difficult for them, depending on their race. Elloria have fins to protect their ears, and on their arms, legs, and backs. They weigh a surprising fraction of what a human their size would.

The Epipela are the most common race. They stand around 6 feet tall and are more suited to land travel than other Elloria, but are perfectly capable swimmers as well. They live to be about 200. They have the lightest coloration of all Elloria, and tend to be the most vibrant.

The Abyssa are somewhat less commonplace. It is difficult for them to breath enough air to support their 7-foot bodies, and therefore, often stick to the water. They have darker colors and patterns in order to blend into their surroundings. Some possess bioluminescent spots and stripes while others do not. They only live to be about 100.

The Hadala, rather rare to the surface world, are hulking, monstrous beasts. Though they are hardly vicious, their appearance drives many to believe they are monsters. It is nearly impossible for the deep sea creatures to maneuver on land, as they are suited for very low temperatures and very high pressure environments. They average nearly 10 feet fall, and only live to be about 50 years old. Bioluminescence is necessary for survival in their dark habitat.
