Really great spin on the grand julia. The 3d warping is superb.

Very special indeed - like some kind of highly patterned bivalve. Whilst the details of the technical discussion are outside my own level of comprehension, I certainly hope that some way to incorporate this new variation is found

Great design. I love how it seems to continue in the central part... and in that too. Hypnotic

Well, the detail is great, the colors are inspired, and the uniqueness of it can't be beat. But I think it's weird, to be honest. Sorry!

I think it is very interesting and beautiful.
It also makes me think or question, what kind of new variation or combination of new variations are at work here? I detect motion blur or something like it and/or some kind of splitting/pie wedge variation effect in at least 2 overlapping and/or fitting together transforms. I also think or maybe don't believe this is possible with the variations currently in any released versions of the APO program.
Also it seems to me there is possibly some other factor involved here that is slightly different than the apo version of the program that's out there. It is hard to say exactly what that is however.
I also then think it is possible that these thoughts of mine are completely wrong but since you wanted to know what people thought that's about it except that I would also like to have access to all the variations for APO that are in existence right now. Send me the updated program if you would like me to try it out, my email is coryench@olypen.com
Thanks!
Cory

You've got it there Cory. I created a test variation specifically to make more variety in a julia flame. The variation is wedge-like. It creates two openings in the plain - one at 180° and squishes all positive alpha values toward the 0° line, and one at -0° and squishes all negative alpha values toward the -180° line.
The problem with distributing the program, or the code for it is i would be responsible for a lot of problems You see, the variation doesn't play by the rules. It reads the transformed points, not the input points - it is actually a post variation. It works great the way it is, but once you add more variations to Apophysis, it won't work on those. It only works on variation that are above it on the list of variations. If another similar variation is made, then their hierarchy would depend on their position in the variation list.
The compromise i guess is to simply add the post variation code to the end of a new julia variation. A new parameter is all that would be needed to control the wedge. As it is however, it could also bring a lot of new looks to 'plastic' style flames too, so i'm not really sure what the best thing to do is.

I suspected you were using a variation that was effecting the variation output point, thus mimicking a nonlinear post transform. The same thing made this image [link] using an experimental variation (Warp/curve) work like a nonlinear post transform, it also worked on the output point but also worked on input point but not nearly as well or in the way I had hoped for.
It is time for non-linear post transforms in apo and plug in variations also. I wish we could just hire some programmers to go for it and make it a reality. I will figure out a way if I have to learn how to program apo myself!!!!
Anyway I think I can handle a variation that works the way your new one does so feel free to mail it on over!!!!!!

~utak3r started working on a plugin system a while ago, but i haven't heard anything about it recently. My brother is a programmer, but he's pretty busy right now.

I know well you brother is a programmer and a very talented one at that.
If we could get some funding to pay for a full time commissioned programming project. Some kind of artistic grant from some art endowment. It sounds crazy but wilder things than that do happen. If I was a programmer I would rather work on an artistic project if one was available and paid well than some boring software. I'm probably just pipe dreaming but I am going to look into it more and keep my eyes open for that.
