That is awesome. The design is outta sight and the clarity....OMG that is so wonderful. What is your rendering set at? I can't go past 4...1/2 the time it tells me I don't have enough memory past 2. Mine always look pixely. (is that a word?)

It sounds like you are trying to get a cleaner render by increasing the oversample. I always keep this at 2. The Filter Radius is usually 0.8 on a flame like this. The quality is usually between 2000 and 4000.

You are correct...that's what I was doing. (I am still learning APO) I have the quality at 4000 (as high as I can get mine) The radius on mine is 0.4 and the oversample is 2 or however high it will allow me to go. (I'll change mine to match yours and see if that helps)
Thank you so much. I did all that and it still looks grainy for some reason. sigh!

How completely neat! The gradient is very different, too.

All I can say is, this looks like one of Peter's flames, thats how good this is. Wow, i'm amazed.

a bit like these two put together:

Its just, your centers, and your julia clarity looks like zueuk's level, just with your own unique style.

The grain is hard to escape from at times, but grain aside, Really a nice render.
Deffinately one of a kind.

YAY!!!! NOT BLUE!!!! hahaha nice job ^_^ i like the shape of this... the spiral is a common shape, but this is a nice use of it. it's very different. the watermark is in a kind of odd place though. it kind of interrupts the fractal... still, great job ^_^

I'm not sure where people see a spiral

Powerchan In reply to MichaelFaber [2006-05-16 02:27:01 +0000 UTC]
it's there. it's easier to see from the zoomed out view. it's not really obvious, but it still is there. the red part in the center looks like a spiral and then the outside silver parts kind of curve in gradually like a spiral.... it's subtle

MichaelFaber In reply to Powerchan [2006-05-16 03:32:26 +0000 UTC]
The red part is actually a circle warped on top of itself. if you follow the julia border around you should see that it is a loop.

hmmm.... i can kind of see that. still, there's nothing wrong with spirals too ^_^ you don't seem to like that everyone is seeing it as a spiral......

ok. i give up. I can't help but laugh. i must be missing something. I'm glad you like my spiral!

That's so cool! I just wish it wasn't so grainy in places.

Thanks. Unfortunatly a few of my recent ones have had some grain in them.

That's unfortunate. Out of curiosity, what quality are you rendering them at? Or rather, at what quality are you rendering them?

MichaelFaber In reply to rubikscubefreak [2006-05-17 03:31:17 +0000 UTC]
i usually render at 2000 quality. i think i brightened it up to much in The Gimp. That is probably why there is some grain.

rubikscubefreak In reply to MichaelFaber [2006-05-18 01:59:17 +0000 UTC]
Aha. Yeah....tweaking too much w/the colors post-rendering tends to do that, i've found. Also...I started rendering mine at like anywhere between 5000 and 10000--there's virtually no grain at those qualities. Unless it's like darker colors on white. *shrug* Iono, I just hate to see a gorgeous fractal w/graininess.

MichaelFaber In reply to rubikscubefreak [2006-05-18 03:08:42 +0000 UTC]
i just did a render at 4000, and it still has some grain too. i even post worked a lot of the grain out, but it still has some. i think it is from the use of noise and blur.

rubikscubefreak In reply to MichaelFaber [2006-05-18 15:28:25 +0000 UTC]
but i've seen such gorgeous uses of noise and blur, by you and others, that doesn't really have any grain.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
MichaelFaber In reply to rubikscubefreak [2006-05-19 03:58:54 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, i really don't know. to me it doesn't really look grainy from the quality being too low. i'll just have to be more careful i guess.
