That large dark area is the shellstyle. You usually find the shellstyle on the top and the bottom of the windows.

With the modified shell32.dll in the package, the whole shellstyle image is dispayed on top, like you can see in the preview. It's actually same with Satin (1) and here I use the topshellstyle as well: [link]

Some reason, I can't get my folders to display the shellstyle, then. I remember once that I tried changing the shell32.dll, and that crashed my computer because I couldn't copy/paste over the new shell32.dll to the folder.

The patched shell32.dll should not harm your pc. Anyway, I heard of a few cases and also received notes where ppl had issues with patched shell32 files. So far, I do not know why this happens...

Sorry, but you will not get the shellstyle on top then

My problem was that I tried replacing the shell32.dll in an explorer window, when it was still in use. I could change the original file's name, but I couldn't copy over the new one, nor could I change the original file's name back. I've learned to replace sensitive files like this using the command prompt, so it should work well.

I'm unhappy with the scrollbars. They look terrible. Other than that, I really like this theme. The clarity of it all is very nice. For people on windows Vista Home Basic, if you want this theme to be transparent for you, open the .msstyles in a hex editor, press Control F, find "df df df ff" and change it to "00 00 00 00".

Well, thank you very much.

As Satin2 is already a little bit older, I will not change the scrollbars (are they really so ugly? ....hmm, maybe they could be better )

If you have some experience with skinning, pls feel free to replace the scrollbars with any other image that finds your liking.

I just love the transparency. Truly something Vista users will enjoy. The taskbar as well as the start menu are my favorite. The thickness to it and how minimal the design is, was a great execution towards a version 2 of Satin.

Wonderful stuff.

Sorry for the late reply.

Will we see any upgrade to the Satin collection?
Furthermore, any new ideas for upcoming wonders?

Do you could make a Satin Theme for Windows 7 ?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Michel8170 In reply to Freacore [2009-08-25 12:24:42 +0000 UTC]

Ohh, actually I wished somebody else would make a Satin port for Win7
I do not have the necessary time for skinning at the moment...

Hi! first of all, very good skin!

secondly, how to remove the user picture from startmenu?? I was a long time trying to do that with some skins but i donΒ΄t succeed, thanks a lot, I hope you could answer me.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Michel8170 In reply to emey87 [2009-08-25 12:23:27 +0000 UTC]

Thank you

The user picture can be removed by hex editing the necessary files. PsycoB found the way to do this and you will find the instructions here: [link]

Well, If I get my hands on the files, I will do so. But atm I do not have the necessary time to keep everything updated here.

But it should be easy to find a SP2 patch and shell32.dll here @ dA.

I will update for sure whenever possible for me.

Kazron In reply to ??? [2009-07-03 01:00:50 +0000 UTC]

I love the theme, it goes well with Enigma for Rainmeter. The only thing I don't like is the min/max/close buttons. They have the "shine" on them when the window is open, which is, I think, Vista Aero's way, too. Except I think the whole thing is cleaner if the "shine" wasn't there at all, and a background window would simply have no Min/Max/Close icons (but it'd still have the border around the three) until you moused over them. I can understand if you don't feel like making a whole new theme out of one request, though.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Michel8170 In reply to Kazron [2009-07-12 14:15:01 +0000 UTC]

Sorry, Kazron. It would be possible to modify the original theme and change the buttons for the inactive windows but I simply don't have the proper time at the moment.

My job & family keeps me too busy... But who knows, maybe one day I'll make a custom vs for you

I'd be forever grateful. I really don't mind, I love the theme as it is.

Actually it's a bit annoying to use new patches after each service pack

kaphei In reply to Michel8170 [2009-06-23 17:52:27 +0000 UTC]

I don't know if you really use this new patches, because I haven't installed it yet.
But since the design has been broken after SP1 I think this could also happen with SP2.
It it always better to be prepared.

Michel8170 In reply to kaphei [2009-06-25 04:48:58 +0000 UTC]

I don't use SP2 myself, because I will rather wait for Win7. I'm not even happy with Vista SP1, because I didn't notice any significant changes after installing it....

Actually nothing. Copy the folder to c/windows/resources/themes and apply the msstyle.dll

Michel8170 In reply to spooky-alex [2009-06-12 17:54:18 +0000 UTC]

Wait, I don't think I need one. It doesn't seem to work on the left-hand pane of the Personalization menu (right-click Desktop, Personalization), but everywhere else, seemingly, it does!

Hey, Michel!

So.....I upgraded to SP2 on my Vista Ultimate 64-bit build.

I've gotten the updated uxtheme, etc. files already, so the theme works! But, I'm wondering if you know of a place where I can get the shell32.dll with the black bars for SP2?

Can any shell32.dll do or will I need one specifically created for your theme?

Thanks, man! Loving the work!

I tried to put your attached shell32.dll into my system32 file after renaming the original. Guess it didn't go into the correct place and now my computer won't let me logon. I then turned t off and retried a few times and now my computer won't even let me get to the logon screen.

So, what do I do now?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Michel8170 In reply to NoodleDoodler [2009-04-15 07:37:11 +0000 UTC]

The patched shell32.dll belongs into the system32 folder. That's absolutely correct.

Can you start the pc in save mode and rename the original shell32? Your Vista is 32bit? The shell32 in this pack won't work with a 64bit OS

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

NoodleDoodler In reply to Michel8170 [2009-04-15 12:56:06 +0000 UTC]

No. My computer wouldn't start up at all. I couldn't even do a system restore.

Luckily I was able to put my computer's drive into another spare computer and rename the file.
