If you couln't tell (but I'm sure everybody could) this is happening in the training-year before the saiyajin's arrival, when Piccolo was still in his denial-phase
Also what I forgot to mention was that this scene was inspired from Onix's fanfiction the Dark Star series (from Book 2)

OMG that is so typical for Piccolo. His face in the second (that is second panel, right? Or would you count it as fourth?) panel is hilarious, you can tell that he had a brain malfunction there for a second. And he just drops Gohan. Perfect. Awesome job with the comics!

Early Piccolo isn't very honest about his feelings .
I love how in character you've portrayed the two particularly Piccolo. It's hard to write such a complex character and keep them as they are. But you did a brilliant job.
