You are a legend. Thank you! (And sorry for the 9 year thread bump, although I imagine that will make you feel even prouder)

9 years!? That makes me feel both proud and old 😀

Probably not as old as me

It's a good thing if you're still doing something you love, 9 years on

Great guide. I would like to use it for my computer class, but the school probably wouldn't appreciate me using your pictures of the ladies. Is it all right if I copy the content into a moodle page? If so how, do you want me to credit you?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

microUgly In reply to eberly4 [2013-06-22 06:30:22 +0000 UTC]

You have my permission to copy it into a Moodle page.

I'm not sure how credit would normally be given, but if you can link back to my DA page, or to [link] that would be enough.

When it's done, let me know.

Quick question: It says use Shift-B to reverse a gradient. When, where, how? With what tool? With what selected?
If I was to be picky, I'd say this is a reference card, not a tutorial, but still indispensible.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

microUgly In reply to designtypegeek [2012-11-01 20:49:52 +0000 UTC]

It actually says Shift+R to reverse the gradient. Below the heading each topic heading, the icon of the tool you need selected is illustrated. So in this case, you can see that you need to have the gradient tool selected. And you need to select the object you want to reverse the gradient on, much like you would need to select the object to apply the gradient, or select the object to perform any other changes to it.

If you were to be picky, you would be correct--it's not a tutorial I don't mention tutorial at all, rather "guide" and "reference" is. It's also in the "Application Reference" category of DA.

Mickey-the-Luxray [2012-08-21 06:56:20 +0000 UTC]

For some reason, I can not get the Gradient tool to work AT ALL, WHATSOEVER. In fact, gradients do not show at all. Is there any fix? I'm using v0.48.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

microUgly In reply to Mickey-the-Luxray [2012-08-21 09:01:11 +0000 UTC]

Possibly the opacity of the fill is at 0%

I recommend posting your query at the Inkscape forum ([link] ). You'll find the community most helpful.

Mickey-the-Luxray In reply to microUgly [2012-08-21 09:02:47 +0000 UTC]

Well, I forgot to clarify. What was wrong was that it would be all one color, and there would be no gradient. The fill was showing, but the other "stop" wasn't.

Thanks. I'll try.

I'm having some trouble reducing the file size so it doesn't need a preview for DVart. Is there any tool to crop the image or reduce the file size?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

microUgly In reply to whyhavedeactivedpage [2012-04-06 08:37:24 +0000 UTC]

If you're adding the SVG to DeviantArt, I believe you have no choice but to supply a preview. I don't think DeviantArt will display an SVG, I think it just lets you download it.

whyhavedeactivedpage In reply to microUgly [2012-04-07 08:00:08 +0000 UTC]

Is there a better file format then? Or is a preview a characteristic of Inkscape.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

microUgly In reply to whyhavedeactivedpage [2012-04-09 22:29:46 +0000 UTC]

Preview is a characteristic of DeviantArt. It does this when it doesn't know how to handle a particular file format--in this case SVG.

Save your image as a PNG by going to File > Export bitmap. You can either upload the SVG and use the PNG as a preview, or just upload the PNG.

HaniSantosa [2012-03-06 12:54:25 +0000 UTC]

what do you mean custom preview? you want different preview, not long stick figure? then you can upload a zip file, consisting your original tutorial and your preview image (shorter version). then DA will ask you to choose which one for the preview, and you choose your preview image.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

microUgly In reply to HaniSantosa [2012-03-07 01:45:21 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. I didn't want to have to upload a ZIP just so I could have a custom preview--a zip file will make it much less accessible.

how can i save a picture on inkscape and submit it on here because when i try to save a pictrue, when i try to open the file, it says it is unable to

microUgly In reply to washboardchaz [2012-02-04 02:05:00 +0000 UTC]

Go to "File > Export Bitmap" to save your image as a PNG, then you can upload the PNG on DeviantArt.

If you have more questions, feel free to post them at www.inkscapeforum.com.

microUgly In reply to maitoenkeli [2011-10-25 11:34:57 +0000 UTC]

Using Inkscape? Go to File > Export bitmap. That will save a PNG that you can submit to DA.

microUgly In reply to maitoenkeli [2011-10-25 20:46:57 +0000 UTC]

That sounds like a glitch. You can use other programs to convert an SVG to a bitmap. Batik Rasteriser is one of the most reliable.

If you need more help, I recommend posting your query at www.inkscapeforum.com. You'll find the community very helpful. Be sure to search the forum first and provide an example of what is going wrong.
