Alternate Title: Edward meets the Duchess

Edward had arrived at London last night, but the morning of wedding, he was told to take a train to someplace else since the diesel who was suppose to take it had failed. Now he didn’t know where he was, the blue engine surveyed his surrounding.

Dirty terrace houses crawled alongside the railway yard and trucks were in long sidings. The landscape was flat too, unlike Edward’s hilly branch line, the blue engine was now missing his home line, with the hills almost covering the tracks, the docks at the end where Bill and Ben worked. And at the other end of the line, where the engines had to try a little harder when going up the incline.

He missed BoCo, Donald, Douglas, Jinty and Bill and Ben dearly, and hoped they were all doing well with looking after his branch line.

Suddenly, Edward was rudely interrupted by his thoughts by a loud and sharp whistle, then puffing into the yard was a Coronation Class. The blue engine wasn’t expecting a steam engine, let alone the engine being painted in cream paint with a sort of caramel lining.

The odd engine smiled at Edward. “I thought I saw some steam over here,” she said poshly, “you must be the famous Edward from Sodor, and from your little books.”

“I wouldn’t call them little,” Edward replied cautiously, the engine seemed nice, but also felt like she was very puffed up.

“But they are little though,” she said, “oh! Where are my manners? My name is Duchess of Loughborough, I pull for the royal train for her majesty the Queen herself!”

“Her majesty the Queen herself?” echoed Edward, “so you’re this royal engine I heard about before coming here.”

“I must be!” smiled Duchess proudly.

“So where’s the Queen then?” asked Edward.

“Ahhh, she’s in the train at the platform nearby,” stated Duchess, “she demanded for me to go and refill before entering London.”

“I see,” said Edward, “excuse me, but I don’t exactly know where I am right now, so if you could, can you show me the way back to London? My controller would be wondering where I am right now!”

But the Duchess looked immediately insulted by Edward’s request. “The Queen isn’t a guide my darling,” she said disapprovingly, she then looked over Edward and sniffed crossly, “and imagine you, behind us looking like that! The Queen will look like a laughing stock and I must’ve have that for her on this day! I am sorry my darling but you’ll to find your own way back.”

“But—”

“It’s the way things are with the Queen my darling,” replied the Duchess firmly, “now please excuse me, I must go and collect some coal.”

She puffed away proudly, leaving Edward behind who was very cross. “So rude,” said Edward, “I only asked to follow them back to London, yet she made it seem like I did something treasonous. Honestly.”

Edward puffed crossly away, he had to find another way in getting back to London and to the Fat Controller.

A/N: Inspiration came from many people with the idea of Edward being the main character other than Thomas. Honestly, he fits it so splendidly. Hope you all liked that little story and the artwork.
