Description
The penitence room.
A place for prayer and healing.

Sintra, Portugal.
Sanctuary built in the 16th century.
Isolated amidst the dense forest, embedded in the rocks and boulders.
Inside, small cells are furnished with wood and cork.
Was inhabited by eight friars in total seclusion.
Now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Did you adjust the colors or is the inside truly like this? For a second I thought it was a manip.
I think perhapsde-saturating the wall just a tad bit would help (to draw more attention to the stuff beyond the door.) But it's just a suggestion.

It is actually much more spectacular there. The light brings out the green of the moss on the stone, in contrast with the cork. It's wonderful and creepy. A great combination of light and darkness.

Wow! Amazing picture. From the thumbnail I thought it was a photomanip. There's such a strange mix of colours and textures, but they come together beautifully. I really like the composition...I like being able to see so far through the doorway, it has this sense of beckoning...yet I also like how the front wall is so detailed that it makes me want to stay and look. The mood of this picture is quite ambiguous and powerful, it makes me unsure whether I would go through the door or not.

I like the atmosphere and the little light in the background is very interesting and offers a good contrast with the big light. There is like a sort of "mise en abyme"! Nice work!

I really love the shot, The lighting and textures make it looks grungy and might even make some think a little dangerous, yet the title opposes all this by saying it is a room for hope. I like how you framed the candle/fire in the door frame because even though everything else looks dark, it's kind of gives off a "light at the end of the tunnel" vibe. Very nice shot!
