Description

Named after Martian cities, the City class destroyers were hardly larger than the Town class frigates, but massed considerably more, a result of the almost complete lack of a hangar. Instead the City class were pure warships, optimized for ship-to-ship combat.

Although they carried a heavy cruiser's armaments, the City class could not fire all of these at the same time even with the inclusion of two fusion plants. Power management was an important skill for a City class'sΒ  tactical officer.

Much like theΒ  Town class, the Transwarp capabilities of the Town class were reasonable, just over 103 kilolights at flank speed, but duration was severely curtailed. The average deployment time before needing to be resupplied was just 90 days, a stark contrast from ships like the Star class, which were expected to be able to operate for several years without resupply.

Both the Town and City classes were meant for operations inside or "relatively" close to the Concordiat.

I must confess, these primary hull and nacelle designs are really growing on me; they have a distinct β€˜advanced’ Excelsior feel to them... simply must find time to fiddle with them.

I was going for that kind of feel, to be honest. The Concordiat timeline is a bit more compressed than the TMP timeline. All of these Star Class derived ships are from the late 23rd, early 24th century. The Concordiat is a few decades ahead of the Federation tech-wise, but that has it's basis in the their equivalent of the Eugenics Wars starting later when there was already a serious (interplanetary) space presence, and it being rather harder on Earth.
