LLC and a few others requested a tutorial, so finaly here we are.I realllllyyyyy encourage you guys to try to put your own style and influence into your work, because what's the fun in a million copy cat images

hmm, honestly i dont know what might be the problem, it might be your using 'masks' instead if your doing it on a different photoshop version :/

Do you always use red to shade? does the shading colour affect the colour of the character? Thanks <3

i use red to begin with so i know where ive shaded and stuff and can see it easily (but obviously if im shading something thats red then i use a different more stand outish color) normaly i end up changing the final shading color to a darker version of the base color or whatever matches really

I highlight with white ;D lol, but yeah i guess you could call that shading too :3
Hrm, to me it just doesnt look right, unless its with a black/grey base

Well. I shade with black at 30%, duplicate the layer and shade a little more and put it at 20%, then i color it with dark red or dark blue. C: Then it doesn't look all gray.
