What the Workshop Covers
An introduction to Creature Design for the Novice to Intermediate level artists. This is part 01 to what will be a 3 part series covering foundation tips, advice, exercises and advanced imagery to help you become a better creature designer. This series focuses predominately on Sci-fi "Alien Anatomy".
The information and imagery provided is set up to easily explain and communicate helpful techniques covering conceptual creature design through both written and visual sketches.
Files Included
Included in the Workshop is a 4 page PDF document with approx. 50 images and 1,770 words covered over 14 steps. The package also includes 2 .PSD files with all of the imagery on different layers and an .abr file including 8 custom brushes for Photoshop.
The file is a .rar file so you will need to download Winrar which you can obtain for free if you don't already have it, or you can use Winzip if you have that program as well. You'll find 4 files when you extract the .rar file (1 PDF, 2 .PSD files and 1 .abr file)
If you choose to download the PDF document on your iPad or other mobile device, you can view it in iBooks or Kindle, both which are free apps. You won't be able to directly download the package to an iPad because it's a .rar file which first needs to be extracted on a computer.
Payment and Contact
The price is set at $10 but you'll notice there is a + after that amount. All that + icon means is that if you choose to, you can pay a little more than the retail price.
So whether you want to pay $12, $15, $20 or more... that extra money would be greatly appreciated and would go toward helping me make future Workshops.
An option for Paypal payment will come soon.

Thanks for answering BloodhoundOmega
Rodlox - what they said.. you can take the .abr file and place it in your "presets" folder within the "brushes" folder you'll find there. When you place it in the brushes folder you can then load those brushes when you're in Photoshop.

I was really excited when I read this but I'm a little concerned about the format / price of the workshop.
I don't mean to be rude and I am not saying you should change it because I said so. I just figured I'd throw my feedback out there because I thought it would be useful to you as a seller if enough people do so, and I will definitely keep my eye on other people's comments to see if they found the workshop useful!

I haven't had anyone say anything about the file format or the price yet, you're the first. I can appreciate the feedback - what was your concern with the file type? the .rar file or the PDF?

Oh the wording was a little confusing on my part. Mostly that it is only 4 pages and seems to basically be tips / suggestions on design rather than instruction on design process. This seems more geared towards people who already feel somewhat comfortable with alien design but could use some extra advice on how to make their designs better?
The drawings seem pretty finished, and there's very little process drawings from what I can tell. I'm not looking for how to render but something like "I chose this shape because x y z and this is how I improved the initial sketch to make it more believable," is always very helpful to me.
It is hard to say since there's only a preview but that's just what it seemed like based on the preview image. I am usually pretty excited / willing to pay for creature design instructions (at least around this price range) but this format is something I'm not used to (very short written format with accompanying drawings, but not process drawings).
I'm sorry if I'm not very clear, and if I'm the only one that's said anything it's probably just me.

No, it's ok.. I'm glad you explained.
I may make certain workshops that are a literal "step by step" from start to finish of a single design but for this workshop I wanted to explain how to help people better open up their imagination.
A lot of what's explained is along the lines of what you said, "I chose this shape because x y z and this is how I improved the initial sketch to make it more believable,"
It's for the novice to intermediate level artists, so to a degree you do need to have a basic understanding of anatomy and how animals are built. I felt that describing the exploratory and creative 'process' behind designing would be of more use than showing people how to draw a single concept..step by step.
I'll keep step by step instructional workshops in mind.

That's totally fair, I am actually looking for "the exploratory and creative 'process' behind designing." I think just based off the preview images, I am not used to seeing exploratory / creative process text accompanying finished images. I usually see writing like that accompanying un-finished drawings, sketches, or showing several stages of development. So, I think I was afraid that the text and images wouldn't be connected all that well based on that.
Also since it was called "foundation tips" I think I thought it was meant for beginner artists and there was a little disconnect there.
According to you it's what I'm looking for though, so I will try it out! Step by step instructional workshops would still be interesting, I'd love to see a narrated video of you thinking through a design as you're working on it.
I hope I wasn't a total pain, and thank you for taking the time to respond!

Again, not a problem.
I had wanted to do a video tutorial, unfortunately two things stopped me. 1: I have a severe post surgery TMJ related chronic pain and it's so difficult for me to talk that I can barely make it 5 minutes without my speech becoming slightly slurred, then I become out of breath and in so much pain that after 10 minutes I literally need to stop talking.
2: This was just a technical issue where I kept getting a blue tint to the recorded videos - so I opted to go down the route of a PDF workshop.
As for the imagery, there are a good deal of rough thumbnails, maybe 3-4 of the images could be considered "finished". Though a lot of it is quite rough and some of it is broken down. I would honestly love to hear your feedback if/when you purchase it.
When I sketch thumbnails I try keeping them loose, though it is a personal habit that I tend to give them implied detail to an extent where others may consider them more "rendered and finished concepts". If you pick it up I really hope you're happy with the purchase.
