Veeeery nice.
I think that the secret to producing really strong alien designs like Barlowe's is to make creatures with extremely strong silhouettes, rather than just mashing features together (like me). It's nice to see this theory of mine born out a little in these cool critters .

They look less like concepts and more like different species.
Perhaps they may be some bio-weapon that propagates by exploding, releasing larvae that feed on the dead or wounded prey, festering in the wounds until they drop off, mate, and metamorphosis into mature females?
In many ways this work reminds me of some of the concept work my Weta Workshop when they were designing the animals from "King Kong".

Thanks,
Well that's a nice compliment, because one of my dream jobs, or companies to worth with would be for Weta Workshop.

I'd say you'd probably get the shit scared out of you more than injury and this little guy would be flustered and unhappy that you ruined his hiding place. I'd say the size would range from 4 to 10 inches in length of the top shell from point to point. So very much the same to that of most crab and lobster species.. as they age they just continue to get larger and the size has no limit like various fish and reptiles. An interesting notion actually, when you think about those type of species. That they will continually grow larger and larger with age. What if that were the case with humans, and we started finding ways of living longer and longer lives (wrinkled old men reaching heights of 10-15 feet, we might be more inclined to respect our elders then lol)

hehe- i just imagine my neighbor from the opposite side of the alley(she is around 80) would be to big to fit in her apartment- so her head would stick all day out of the window.okay it sticks out of the window all day anyway...but if her head would be so very big and got stuck in the window she would need to be fed from outside!- probably the local fire-department would bring her a bucket of soup every day... oh .... what am i writing?
