Description My first ever tutorial! So please cut me a little slack if it isn't that good! :]

This is based off of my "I See You" piece which can be seen here: [link]

There is also a video that goes along with this tutorial. It is just showing the visual process of what I went through. I recreated the image in 45 minutes, so it doesn't look exactly the same, but it is meant to help you get started. It can be found here: [link]

Please post your Na'vi and Avatars here so I can see if my tutorial helped you! And if you have any questions or comments feel free to share!

The eyes that are used are owned and copyrighted to 20th Century Fox. I do not own them, I suggest you use a different image.

Have fun! And good luck!

I hope you realize that the eyes from the movie poster are copyrighted, right? You're encouraging people to commit art theft by suggesting they use the eyes.

I realize they are copyrighted, and I didn't even think about it. I should have.
I am not trying to encourage people to use them. I even say that in the tutorial. I can see how it can encourage though.

How do you make the eyes bigger? I mean, which tool do you use?
(I've got a few doubts). I dont manage to colour the face, could you explain it to me??

Thanks
(this tutorial is great, it's just im a bit... stupid for this photoshop things >_<

Bare with me, I may have a hard time explaining this in a way to someone who doesn't know Photoshop all that well. :]
Okay, so for the eyes. On the top menu bar there should be a tab that says filter. When you pull it down there will be a button that says liquify.
Click it.
It will bring you to a totally new screen. And the first tool that should be already in use is the Forward Warp tool (test it, it should push and drag things around by clicking and dragging.) Basically you use this to shape the eyes to a size you like. In my video [link] should help explain that around the one minute mark.
And then the color on the skin. Take a normal round brush, and on the top of the screen there should be a little thing that says "Opacity" and it will say 100%. Turn that down to 50%. Also there will be a "Mode" tab near it too, that will say "Normal". Turn it to "Color". And make sure you start coloring on a new layer, when you do color the skin, make sure you only click once, try to not to let go of the click until you have covered all of the skin. Repeat this one or two more times. After you are done, above the layers there should be another tab that says "Normal". Again, turn that one to "Color". That should be it then!

I hope this helps!!! Let me know if you need more!

you never have to be nervous for uploading something!

MikeMonaghanPhoto In reply to NielsHakMusic [2010-01-18 00:19:27 +0000 UTC]

Usually I am not.
I am not a good writer or good at explaining things.
So that is why I was nervous about uploading this, haha!

MikeMonaghanPhoto In reply to UnknownBlood [2010-01-17 06:55:43 +0000 UTC]

You can! It just takes a lot of practice!
(And I am not even that good!)

UnknownBlood In reply to MikeMonaghanPhoto [2010-01-17 06:58:08 +0000 UTC]

I've been drawings for ever, but how did you get so good with photos?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MikeMonaghanPhoto In reply to UnknownBlood [2010-01-17 08:07:23 +0000 UTC]

The only thing I used to do was draw. I stopped that years ago, I didn't have the patience for it, and I was bad with proportions.

All I do is practice, I see something I like or looks good, and try to recreate it in any way possible.
After a while things start coming faster and easier.
It just takes time and practice!

UnknownBlood In reply to MikeMonaghanPhoto [2010-01-17 20:55:18 +0000 UTC]

Ah, i guess but it might take me years xD I have a few photos of me modeling like my favorite one is my with a crossbow, but i cant seem to do anything with it >_< But i'll practice for sure ;D

Is there anything I can help with?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

UnknownBlood In reply to MikeMonaghanPhoto [2010-01-17 21:32:33 +0000 UTC]

Well, for months i've been looking for a background for this image of mine. [link]
I was looking for a pirate ship i guess, but im not sure what else it would look good with. and the rest of the images i want to try to get backgrounds for.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MikeMonaghanPhoto In reply to UnknownBlood [2010-01-18 00:15:12 +0000 UTC]

Hmmm... So you need help finding a background?
Are you wanting to make that photo into a Na'vi?
I don't know if I am seeing what you are asking for...
:/

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

UnknownBlood In reply to MikeMonaghanPhoto [2010-01-18 00:30:58 +0000 UTC]

There are some other photos i want to make into a na'vi, but not this one. I just need help finding a good background of a ship. Well, a photo on the ship i guess.
[link] that photo i'd like to make into a navi, and i think i know what to do with the hair, to hide my current ear and such. Its just backgrounds im having issues with really.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MikeMonaghanPhoto In reply to UnknownBlood [2010-01-18 00:39:33 +0000 UTC]

Oh, okay. For backgrounds, maybe search for stock backgrounds: [link]
I don't know if that will help, but you may find something in there?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

UnknownBlood In reply to MikeMonaghanPhoto [2010-01-18 00:51:23 +0000 UTC]

Ah, well it has some stuff i want, but so far i dont see any ships. But thanks for showing me.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MikeMonaghanPhoto In reply to UnknownBlood [2010-01-18 08:18:39 +0000 UTC]

How about... This?!
I searched "Pirate Ship Stock" in DA's search bar, I saw a few thinks.
For some reason the link doesn't work.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

UnknownBlood In reply to MikeMonaghanPhoto [2010-01-18 18:42:51 +0000 UTC]

It doesnt have the right angles on a ship that i need because the photo was taken really close and how the picture is angeled.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MikeMonaghanPhoto In reply to UnknownBlood [2010-01-18 22:32:16 +0000 UTC]

Ah, I see. Sometimes it takes a long time of searching to find something worth using. I know I spend hours searching for stock sometimes.
