Description
This is my most recent of paintings. Having a look at deviant art before, I do not know how well paintings are recieved in this community comapared to digital manips and photoshop work. With thirteen-million plus pictures on this site, I only hope somebody gets to see this. This is a three panel part of a ten panel series, with and expressionistic commentary on what emotions and ambience is captured when people gather soley to get drugged and drunk, and also (though not in this part of the series) the consequences of such behavior in extremity.

I simply like the flow of the lines, very natural and free in some respects...but not quite. *scatchees head* Abstract is so hard to describe sometimes. Ill nod my head and smile and hope it conveys.

Hello!
I find this picture very attractive; I enjoy your style (though expressionism is not a forte of mine!) and like the party concept. I find that having a concept tying to pieces together makes our work more cohesive, as well as challenging us more as artists... Party looks like its going well so far...

well... considering this was a daily deviation... i don't feel like anything I say will even be adequate. it's a beautiful piece. I like this style which is still not entirely abstract, but enough so that an abstract-lover like myself is intrigued. your color choices are incredible. I love that this is in separate panels but still flows together so well. If it were one giant painting, I don't think it would be as successful. the break in it really works for me. and as with the apple watercolor, I still get your gestural strokes in this, and it makes it even more interesting.
beautiful.

you know.. it matters not if I had a DD of not, comments like this make me feel great. It warms me up to know that people really enjoy looking at my work, and it drives me to continue to create more (albeit slowly at present).
It is hard to think that I used to be a salesman, and had abandoned my art for the pursuit of money. That was definately a different person. Each time I get a comment like yours, it strenghtens the artistic person I am now, and am still maturing into..
so thank you.

Well, you're welcome... I'm definitely glad to hear that you've come back to creating art. I will never have the talent that you posess (and it's definitely not something one can learn) and it would sadden me to know that someone who does have such abilities can't or won't use them or share them with the world. But I understand the pursuit of money. Unfortunately money tends to run the world... art doesn't have such an important role, but nevertheless, it's just as important on a different level.

you DO have a talent for photography. I am a photographer as well ~mikesphotography and I know skill when I see it.
Money is important, yes, as it is a nessicary part of life. The pursuit of money (or at least a great deal of it) is not something I could ever commit myself to. My art I can, and it is great that people enjoy it as much as I.
Take heart though, for your talent for urban landscapes is obvious and there for everyone to see. You have the ability to show a world within a photo with some of your pieces, and as I wrote on your page, that is the essence of good journalistic as well as fine art photography.

well, I'm grateful that someone with as much talent as yourself sees skill and talent in my work. And I greatly appreciate your comments. I'm at a point where I've been thrown into art somewhat unwillingly - not because I don't enjoy it, but because I feel far from adequate to do such things. So your comments are definitely encouraging.
So now it's my turn to thank you.

Superb surrealism, boldly colored.
Do I also sense a strong condemnation for the 'party animals' portrayed?

This piece should be on walls of a bar. It's amazing and the use of complementary colours here makes it so rich and vibrant. This piece I would have on my wall. And it doesnt put drinking into a good light too. So I love this

I looked through your whole "A Party" series, and it's something definately worth looking at. It's so rare to find surreal or abstract pieces these days that say more than "...hm this..is..dark."
The ones that attract me the most are definately either this first one or the last 3 panels. The second one seems a little busy for me, but anyways. I like the composition and how the background gradually changes. However, on the purple figure, or even the figures in most of the panels, are lacking completmentary tones.

Thanks for your comment.
I will say that (and not to sound egotistical) the effect of not having any complementary tones is entirely purposeful. I was aiming for a high contrast, distorted look with the figures.
Sometimes, you break the conventional rules to gain aesthetic advantages.

I like that you have an over all meaning that you are trying to convey through a series of work that is broken into 3s within the pieces. Its a very interesting style. I would suggest making the full view smaller because you can't see all of the piece on one screen.

Very excellent concept and panel design. Also, the shading and lighting in all your panels is brilliant and matches really well with the excellent colouring job you have done. Really nice paintings, really give that feel of being drunk. Good job!
