Description
This artwork depicts ammunition which is a part of my sci-fi world's lore. Do not copy the design, use it in your own artworks, or claim it as your own!

More ammunition types used by my fictional weapons, this time the intermediate cartridges (those fires by assault rifles and carbines). 😀

8 × 32 mm: The first true intermediate cartidge, designed by Braxus Goranyl for his KRG-1 assault rifle. It is little more than a shortened rifle cartidge and it has long been considered obsolete. In the developed world, it is only used for sport shooting by gun enthusiasts, however, in some of the more lawless parts of the world, it is still ocassionally found as old Gora Vur weapons (including the KRG-1) are very popular among terrorists, insurgent groups or governments of developing countries, and this round is cheap and easy to produce even with fairly simple equipment.
Real-life equivalents: 7.92 × 33 mm Kurz

6.4 × 40 mm: A pretty ubiquitous cartidge mainly used by older or mid-tier Rotharnian weapons. Most common versions feature an armor piercing bullet with a hard alloy core. Produced by many manufacturers in various levels of quality.
Real-life equivalents: 5.45 × 39 mm (dimensions, applications), 7.62 × 39 mm (ubiquity, role - this is my world's equivalent of "cheap AK ammo")

6.4 × 48 mm: Standard service cartidge of Istarian Union and its allies. Used by many assault rifles manufactured by Kaneesian, Verisakan and by older Staris rifles.
Real-life equivalents: 6.8 × 43 mm SPC (dimensions), 5.56 × 45 mm (ubiquity, role - this is my world's equivalent of "the standard good guys' service cartidge", except there are no good guys in my world (: )

6.4 × 48 mm PCSS (Polymer Cased, Steel Supported): A polymer-cased round with a steel base, neck and reinforcing rods in the polymer part. Developed mainly to save weight, as these rounds weigh rougly 30 % less than standard 6.4 × 48mm rounds.

9.6 × 48 mm: This behemoth among assault rifle cartidges was developed by Gora Vur and offers increased stopping power and armor penetration. However, the bullets travel rather slowly and the effective range is quite low. Subsonic variants also exist, often used by specialist integrally suppressed weapons.
Real-life equivalents: 9 × 39 mm

1.6/5.6 × 40 mm FSFDS (Fin Stabilized Flechette): Instead of a conventional bullet, this round contains a 1.6 mm flechette with a 5.6 mm sabot. This unusual, high-tech round was developed by Staris for its electromagnetically-assisted weapons - the flechette (with sabot attached) is fired by conventional propellant and further accelerated by strong electromagnetic force before leaving the barrel (think of it as a hybrid between a conventional firearm and a railgun). The sabot is discarded after the flechette leaves the barrel. The flechette travels much faster than conventional bullets and because it is made of a very dense material and it has a small cross-section, it has excellent penetration capabilities (we use this principle in real world with tank APFSDS rounds). This round was developed to increase the effective infantry combat range and to allow engaging enemies hiding behind cover. It can also penetrate unarmored and some lightly armored vehicles.
Real-life equivalents: The closest equivalent would be the flechette round developed for the Steyr ACR experimental rifle.

2.4/6.4 × 40 mm FSKP (Fin Stabilized Kinetic Penetrator): A sub-caliber round developed for conventional weapons (as opposed to the previous type, which is supposed to be used specifically with electromagnetically-assisted weapons). A 2.4mm kinetic penetrator made of super-hard metal alloy concentrates maximum pressure onto a single spot, providing excellent penetration against body armor. Moreover, after defeating the armor, the round often shatters, inflicting complicated wounds which are difficult to treat. The only downside is that the penetrator is more susceptible to veering off the intended trajectory when making contact with random objects, as opposed to rounds with higher mass.
Real-life equivalents: This type of ammo is fairly similar to real-life APFSDS tank rounds, just miniaturized for personal firearms.

3.2 × 40 mm KP (Kinetic Penetrator): A type of ammo manufactured by Ardox used by both conventional and electromagnetically-assisted Rotharnian weapons. Its design is actually stolen, as the round was originally developed by Khariyev Arms Plant, a Kordonian firearms company, with the help of Istarian Union and its allies. Rotharn and Kordonia have been sworn enemies for a long time, but any attempt at annexing Kordonia went badly for Rotharn, among many things, due to superior Kordonian equipment. Therefore, Rotharnian corporations copied many captured Kordonian weapons and tech, including this ammo type, which offers superior penetration compared to 6.4 × 40 mm and other widespread Rotharnian rounds.
Real-life equivalents: No direct equivalent as far as I know, however, the idea of having a small hardened penetrator in a larger diameter cartridge has been used for example to develop the 6.5 × 25 mm CBJ ammo.

This is a second part of my updated list of cartidge types. The first part, featuring pistol and PDW cartidges, can be found here . More parts, which will include rifle and shotgun rounds, as well as some more advanced types of ammo will come later.
