Description
Strv 103 is a Swedish main battle tank with a unique turretless construction. Its gun is fixed to the hull and the tank has hydropneumatic suspension, which allows elevating and depressing the gun by tilting the whole hull in the range between -11 to +16 degrees. Horizontal aiming is performed by turning the whole tank. Many test trials proved that a turetless design isn't really a disadvantage for the overall flexibility of the tank, as the Strv 103 showed comparable or even better results in those trials than many turreted tanks of that time. However, Strv 103 was mainly intended for defensive role anyway. This unorthodox design allowed to reduce height of the tank significantly, meaning it is harder to detect and hit. It also increases the efficiency of the armor, which is not very thick, but extremely well angled. As the gun always remains in the same position relative to the hull, it also made it easier to install a powerful autoloading device into the tank, which allows the Strv 103 to fire 12-15 rounds of 105 mm ammunition per minute.
This vehicle was designed during the Cold War and it was intended to be used to defend Sweden in case of Soviet invasion. As we all know, such invasion never happened, so Strv 103 never saw real combat. Nevertheless, it remains an interesting chapter in main battle tank development history, proving that even unconventional designs solutions can result in some quite potent vehicles.
This is the first time I tried to build a replica of a real vehicle, rather than coming up with my own design. Some details aren't perfect but the overall impression is quite good I think.

The lower frontal structure actually primarily worked as a dozer blade on real tanks, as they were designed for a defensive purpose, they gave them a way to entrench themselves on their own for ambushes etc. but you are right that it would probably work as a spaced armor against shaped charges as well, maybe the designers realized that too and decided to kill two birds with one stone.
the "cage" was also meant to protect the tank against shaped charges. Some versions even had spaced armor on the sides but I didn't build that, i don't have enough square tiles to make that look good
I don't find my building skills that impressive and this was one of the first "seriously meant" things that I built, trying to really replicate a real vehicle instead of just coming up with my own ideas which never looked entirely realistic. but thank you, I'm glad it turned out well in your opinion.

Thank you. Yes, I know about Cobi tanks, I saw some reviews of them on YouTube. Some didn't look that good to me but some others were pretty nice.
I also like some of their specialized pieces that LEGO doesn't produce, like mounted machine guns, cannons, cupolas etc, these would be nice even for LEGO MOCs.
However, combining LEGO with Cobi would probably be considered a mortal sin and it would certainly make me go to hell. ;D

Cobi made my dream true cause where i was 12 back in 2007 i build my own Lego tanks.
Sadly i didnt had any tracks at that moment and i mostly build them with 8 axles.
I remember where i tried to build a Tiger I wich was not that hard of the bulky shape
For me i am pretty happy with Cobi cause as you mentionend they got their own unique parts like guns, helmets etc.
I watched on Sariel on YT and he did some videos about Cobi sets. Personally i dont like him cause i think he is payed by Lego to review and score their sets.
My last Lego wich i bought was the 2018 Mack Anthem and i am very impressed by this wonderfull set
They should bring more trucks or better! some farming machiners like tractors, combines and attachments.

I know Sariel, but I never cared about his rating in the reviews too much, I just prefer to make my own opinion based on what I see. I also learnt about Cobi tanks from his channel..I knew they existed, but the only thing I saw prior to watching his videos were some ads on TV.
There is a lot of stuff they could do, I feel that lately, they have been shifting their attention towards movie-related sets, some superhero stuff etc, which is a shame to me, I was never a big fan of these sets, apart from Lego Star Wars. Luckily, LEGO is...well, LEGO
so it's up to us to design our own builds and build what we want the way we want.

Exactly! but you won´t belive wich shitstorm they did in the last year here in germany.
There is a big german Lego YouTuber and he also got this own little store in Frankurt am Main.
Well Lego send him a warning to change his store logo cause he used a blue brick as his logo.
After that he said i get enough of this company and now he is selling sets by Xingbao, Sembo, Cobi etc.
If you are interested he is called ,,Held der Steine" i put you a link to this channel

Nice! Does it do the hydropneumatic suspension thing you mentioned? I imagine that would be hard to build. In any case, it looks fantastic! Very much like the real thing!

It actually slightly works not the way real hydropneumatic suspension works, I chose a simpler method - all wheels are on a bar which is connected to the chassis with a single hinge, so the entire vehicle can tilt forward and backward around that "pivot point"
the problem is that the weight of the vehicle is fairly substantial for this and the dozer blade is so heavy that the centre of gravity is shifted forward, so after standing still for a long time, the tank tends to tilt forward on its own
also the range of motion isn't that great, probably not as good as in real life
I might take some more photos where the tank is actually tilted in the future, I will see.
anyway, thank you for your feedback

This tank also exists in reality, just mentioning it in casse this is not clear.
However only a few hundred were built: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stridsva…

Oh yes, I'm familiar with it. Fought my fair share of them in world of Tanks. Also I mentioned it being real in my original comment.

You know, but some others might not.
Though i stopped playing WoT before Strv103 was introduced.
