Description Another amazing commission by Bearcub! bearcub.deviantart.com/

Updated version with officer's stripes here:

Commadore Akiko Jane Shepard holding her M-5 Phalanx Pistol, ready to breach and clear after discovering trespassers in her apartment! The Phalanx was always one of my favorite pistols in the series, even though it was only available through DLC in ME2. It looks and functions like the type of pistol a sci fi special forces commando would actually use.

Cmdre Shepard has been pushing hard for many Military reforms, both for the Alliance and the Galaxy at large, since the Reaper War. Due to her efforts, the Alliance is now reinstating the old multiple military branch system, with a Navy, an Army and a Marine Corps, all now becoming separate organizations.

The Army will primarily play a defensive role protecting Alliance planets on the ground (though some planets will undoubtedly have Marine bases on them as well) and only occasionally deploy for offensive operations when it is determined that large scale mobilization is necessary. Except for a few specialized units, general Army training is not quite as grueling or intense as it is for the Marines, nor is marksmanship as much of a priority. They will also have (though budget limitations for this are a concern) many squadrons of in-atmosphere and space worthy (but non FTL capable) fighters and bombers making up their infantry corps. That way, in the event that a planet is cut off from Naval reinforcements for a long period of time while under attack, the enemy will not have complete control of orbit or the air.

The Navy will pretty much play the same role it always has, patrolling Alliance territory and being the first responders whenever a world sends out a distress signal, only deploying in mass in the event of full scale war. In addition to a detachment of Marines, all vessels will now have at least one good sized unit of the new Space Troopers, Naval soldiers specifically trained and equipped to board enemy vessels as well as repel boarders themselves.

Finally, the Marines will be the second responders in the event of a mass enemy raid on an Alliance world. The Navy secures orbit and the Marines go groundside to help the local Army forces (who optimistically haven't been wiped out) mop up. They also have several small flotillas of frigates, destroyers and light carriers, making them ideal for quick but hard strikes into enemy territory as well as aiding the Navy in scouting uncharted systems. In addition, many of the Alliance's more isolated deep space military facilities prefer to use the better trained Marines for protection rather than basic Army or Navy security units. The more strategically vital of these facilities usually get their request granted.

Thank you. Bearcub did the art. I only paid for it and wrote the blurbs underneath.

Love it.  My kind of woman.  I enjoyed reading your narrative-wish more people would do this.

Thanks! I'm actually better at these kinds of summaries than I am at full on stories.

It was very well written.  Don't be so modest.
