Hey! This was a shitload of fun to make
I was thinking about how creepy it would be if in the future, people start neglecting their real bodies to exclusively live in downloaded indistinguishably real simulations. There would be all kinds of interesting philosophical debates to have, and loads of conflicting opinions on the technology. It's an idea I might explore more, especially if people dig it.

There is a whole lot of movies with very similar themes. First one that comes to my mind is The Matrix. But great piece of work! Cause you know that if it were possible to live in virtual reality, many people would do it...and subsequently neglect their bodies.
I also like your use of lighting; the contrast of it coming from behind on one side and then shining down on him on the other side.

This is pretty amazing. And that's a really interesting subject. I suspect I would be in that group of people that would embrace living in those simulations, if only because I tend to live in my own fantasy world already. :/

Immediately made me think of the wireheads and their plugged-in-heads from Larry Niven's Gil Hamilton stories (particularly "Death By Ecstasy").
From wikipedia:
"In Larry Niven's Known Space stories, a wirehead is someone who has been fitted with an electronic brain implant ... to stimulate the pleasure centres of their brain. In the Known Space universe, wireheading is the most addictive habit known ... and wireheads usually die from neglecting themselves in favour of the ceaseless pleasure."

Seeing as I just watched not too long ago a YT video about the growing number of artificial relationships and dating simulators (search "Dating Games and Synthetic Relationships" on YT, for the curious), seeing this piece brought me right back to that, in a very spine chilling kind of way.
Your artwork evoking that kind of feeling in me shows its brilliance. Good work!

need not be something about the future, if you look at the world and people as they are and act. you will see that when that guy is ugly and does not have many conditions to find someone or socialize, he makes the gym, try to treat yourself to try to be accepted that way of people or when the woman is fat and feel horrible, try lose weight and stay nice for someone sees it otherwise, it is unfortunately nothing more than Sex Appeal.
when I saw the title of your art just thought of something like this, people trade when the other one does not have more to offer, the human being is rotten and miserable.

my initial thought of this (w/o reading the description) was that it revolved around sickly person who dreamt of a happy time perhaps? where I got it? Well to be truthful i just thought maybe it looked more like he's (assuming its a dude for the lack of um...chest) in a hospital with a bunch of needles XD but anyway, reading the description it really got me to thinking thanks for that sincerely~ wonderful piece [/thumbs up]

Very disturbing idea. I've thought about it before too. It could possibly happen in the future too, depending on how much the individual cares for physical activity. Would be fun to write a story about it too. A sort of pre-warning.

That's a pretty scary idea, and pretty debatable as you say :S I love all the painting but there's two things that specially catched my eye: the chromatic aberration-thing, because it's something that's suposed to be an ugly mistake and yet you used it cleverly represent the dream; and the other thing is how his fingers are really making pressure agains her arm, it makes her look like she's really made from flesh. Nowdays the most I see seems like perfect porcelain hard skin, so I really like it

Just... uwaaaarrrrrgh. I have no words to express the level at which this has effected me. It's horribly deep, dark and disturbing. Especially since, unless I had read the comment, I wouldn't have realized that this scene is self-inflicted. When I saw the image at first, I thought that it must be someone undergoing imprisonment, torture or a coma. This piece deserves a daily deviation, in my opinion. I'm going to put it up for one.
