I find it peculiar that the oblique lines in the middle of the fractal seem to continue from one stripe to the other. Is this an intrinsic feature of your coloring algorithm, or something you had to fine-tune?

Actually, the coloring method used here (surreal) is very chaotic. It does trap to the orbits of the fractal and tend to repeat, but as you get closer to the middle of a large spiral it tends to cluster (because the shapes are so large) You won't get the same control with it as you would, say, using cilia or similar. In this case it's more that the surreal trap follows the curve of the spiral, and I settled on a settings that complimented the lines of the existing structure. Hope this helps!
