I love this character. I love him so much, I gave it my all trying to draw him, despite the fact that I really struggle wth a) subtle expressions, b) shiny metal, and c) smooth, pitch-black areas. And Slade is essentially a smiling psycho in a half-black-half-metal gimp mask.

I wanted to make him as realistic as possible, which meant showing his real eye and mouth behind the mask (niether of which are visible in the cartoon), and adding bolts on to hold the two halves together. I still tried to keep him close the cartoon version though.

I hope the people who watched Teen Titans as children and loved it as much as I do approve.

Note on the choice of song lyrics: the first time I heard 'Pretty When You Cry' was on a Teen Titans AMV on YouTube, focusing on Slade and Robin. Consequently, I can't hear that song without thinking of Slade.
