Description Further expanding on my Homestuck girlband AU...

Really this stemmed from me wanting to draw Fef peering at her new tattoo, and then I wanted to draw a better view of Vriska's shirt. Deciding what to draw for the last one on the right took me aaaages. It's a little sloppier than the rest as a result, but w/e.

So yeah, these are all scenes from the career of T)(3 8UCK3T L1ST. Vriska's the frontman, she sings and plays bass; Fef is the lead guitarist and Ter is on drums. They want to be punk rock/goth metal, but really they're more alt-rock than anything. I imagine the middle one taking place pretty early on in band history, just as they're starting to make it big. As for the far right, I think that is probably a huge screaming match waiting to happen.

...dang, I just realized how nice Vriska comes across in these. Next time I draw the band I should fix that.

Yup, hair down is better °^°

They would also play a music I appreciate (I know the drawing is "old" and you're probably over it but did you attribute some actual songs to them ?)

Okay, wow so I was looking at this again today and I just realized that the inscriptions under each panel are written in the accent of who ever wasn't in the picture.

And I found that so awesome I think I started doing that fangirl squealing thing. Oh gog I need help, your stuff is just way to amazing.

I have a friend who I showed these pictures to and she keeps insisting that Kanaya should be in charge of wardrobe Lol

haha...actually, in my headcanon Kanaya is a folk-pop singer under the same label.

You know, I thought about it? But she just doesn't look like Vriska to me with her hair up! I think I need to see her as a little more wild and crazy, and for me that involves having her hair down.

true. She still looks good with it up, though.

Yeah; I actually have a huge thing for Vriska in pigtails, but I haven't drawn her like that yet.

I love the iddea of her being chubby, though. I don't know why, but I love it. XP

I think a lot of people draw her (and the rest of the Homestuck cast, but especially her) very angular and razor-thin...I've been actively trying to draw them with a little bit more softness, but it is hard to resist the Vriska-is-all-bony-angles thing that seems to exist in fanon!

yuh. People need to make them with some more variation in body shape

I agree! But the way they're drawn in the comic makes them all a bit cookie-cutter in terms of the underlying structure.

I hear that. I'm actually thinking of putting together a reference sheet for myself to ensure that I have some degree of diversity.

haha, no; I've never taken any art classes. I'm currently getting a MA in anthropology, actually--I am REALLY OLD for this fandom. Everyone else I come across here is in high school or just starting college, and I'm over here with my 22-year-old self going "...yeah, I'm the only one who can legally drink here, aren't I?"

erm... >.> What's anthropology?

mimetic-heresy In reply to chaotic-chaos13 [2011-05-02 11:44:59 +0000 UTC]

Nonsense, I am the one who is old and decrepit!
Haha, I get that a lot...anthropology is basically the study of people and culture. Anthropologists typically spend their time immersed in other cultures, taking notes on the way people do things, and constructing a complete picture of the systems at work. We also focus heavily on personal narratives; we talk to people and get their individual stories a lot. Fields like psychology try to remove all the context they possibly can for whatever trait it is they're studying. By contrast, anthropology believes that context is what gives life meaning, and any attempt to separate it out means you're misunderstanding your subject.

I love cultures.... and languages, even though I kinda suck at them... >.>
Do you enjoy it?

Yeah, I like it a lot! I can put together a list of things you could read to find out more if you like, but off the top of my head--Philippe Bourgois's work with drug dealers in the urban United States was one of the first ethnographies I read, and I found it really interesting. I'd also suggest checking out sociology for a slightly more structured intro to the social sciences--Conrad and Schneider's 'Deviance and Medicalization' is an amazing text that I recommend to everyone.
