Description
Starting a slew of Minecraft builds from Rome, I start with the Arch of Constantine.Scale is 1:1 of the real structure.
Will make a few tweaks here & there, suggestions are welcome!
This is more of a demonstration of accurate proportion & symmetry, will have grander projects to come!
Historical Info:
Built during an era of tremendous change & reversal of fortune, the Emperor Constantine the Great (272 - 337 AD) built this great triumphal arch in the center of Rome, adjacent to the Colosseum. Arches like this are built in commemoration of great victories won on the field of battle. In this case, it was during the Battle of Milvian Bridge during a civil war in the Empire. Rome's grip on power was beginning to fade amidst acts of treachery from within the Roman court, constant rebellions in distant provinces & loss of territory. It soon became clear that the territory of the Empire was too large to be run effectively. In this case, the Empire was split between the West & the East.
The arch is an evolution of Roman design in the fact that Greek style elements are absent in it. Three semi-circular archways supported by thick walls to hold them in place decorated with various reliefs detailing the victories of Emperor Trajan & Constantine both on the outside & inside of the archways adorn the monument. It stands nearly 22 meters tall & 26 meters wide. It was encased in marble with the text inscriptions cast in bronze. It was built in 312 AD.
Constantine's rule was significant in many respects: he made Christianity the State religion of the Roman Empire, forsaking the polytheistic pantheon of gods that once dominated Roman spiritual affairs. He shifted the power of the Empire to the East where he founded the city of Constantinople (now Istanbul) which would become one of the world's most magnificent cities for 1,000 years.
This arch was built in a time where Rome was no longer the seat of government in the Western Roman Empire, it had moved to Mediolanum (now Milan) further to the north. It has served as a template for other arches the world over, & it's state of preservation is such we can still appreciate it nearly 2,000 years after it was built.

it's built in neo gothic style, 95 meters tall and 3.5 million bricks built in.

I really like the sound of that, Gothic is my favourite style. Can you send me some pics of it? Once I finish my planned Roman builds I'll work on Gothic structures.
