Description Rarely drawing these days (all work and no play) but had these old designs for Winter classes laying around and thought I'd put them together here.

For the game Sacred Seasons 2 .

Swarmer was called ' Black Sun' or ' Black Flock' swarmer during development, based on Danish giant flocks of starlings that literally darken out the sun. (it's true! Wiki ) Swarmers were ment to be a creepy and mysterious magic type class.
Butcher was unconsicously inspired by Audrey Hepburn and looks more like a maid than a butcher : ).
Bandit is based on Raccoons.

Enjoy!

That spy is epic. The Swarmer also a favorite. I like how you pick a style and create the characters based on it. Really adds to the class of the whole thing.

pretty awesom, and quite original Seems to fit with the feel of winter; cold, aloof, dead or harsh

I love how sinister these guys look!
Swarmer is going to be a fun class to try out, too bad Spring Swarmer wasn't on Spring Various 2!
I was given a hint at the theme, and my imagination is running wild.

The maid-butcher theme can definitely work, but it'll probably depend on the skills.

These bandits are shaping up to be a varied bunch!

The eyeball lining on the swarmer's cloak is a neat touch.

The only thing that bothers me is that the spy looks really conspicuous. Don't you think that he'd be instantly spotted in a corporate setting or in the government? I wouldn't hire HIM to do my espionage

But seriously. Amazing designs. I really like how the bandit looks like a raccoon but not so much that it's all up in your face.

Ah... youre so amazing..
I bet theres no steady one answer to this, but: what is the process you go through when you design a character? Any good tip you can give?
Its fine if you dont know how to explain it, thanks in advance anyway!

Hmmm... I'll try:
Sometimes you have a jackpot idea straight away, other times you need to brainstorm along a certain theme (like raccoon: look up raccoons, sketch raccoons, analyse what are recognizable features of raccoons, experiment how you can put these in a character, pant raccoons, hat raccoons, tail? ears? etc) Sometimes you have a smart idea for a starting point (e.g. I want to use this hat) and everything else follows. Other possible starting points can be an idea for a personality, a weapon, a silhouette or something the bigger group of designs so far lacks. (e.g. an older character, a huge pants silhoutte, a straight hairstyle. I already had two big muscular butchers, so for winter I wanted a petite female one and something with skulls, so that was my starting point.)

I always start with sketches on paper, very quick simple ones, most of them are no bigger than 5 cm without details. They are very ugly and not worth posting ^^. They are for developing the idea, getting the volumes right and exploring variations. (for example for a hat I do also a bigger hat, even bigger hat, no hat, different shape hat etc.) I also check if it balances with all the other designs, the overall style, and check that I haven't already done this silhouette or shape before.

Then when I'm kinda confident this could work, I draw it in PS, check with my employer, do adjustments, and finally place in in a huge grid together with all the other designs and do colour, size and detail adjustments to fit the overall style) Then: done! Hope this answers your question a bit : ).
