The Grumpy fields is the home of this unhappy fellow, the Grumpy phoenix. He is quite unhappy with everything and everyone, and therefore spend his time making sure that whenever something tries to start pushing up from the ground, down it goes again.~
I tried tested creating some texture for the background for the first time ever, yay me. Guess I found a purpose for that watercolorpaper I never wanted to use for anything real because of its crappy surface. :3

I love that you've taken care of every single feather, and the light!
I also I like that you have shadowed under the feathers aswell as over them..
I really like they eye and the beak! They're shadowed, yet they shine! But I wonder, what does it eat??

A new way to think of a phoenix. I've never heard of a grumpy one before, usually they're all bright and happy and cheerful and sparkly and burst-into-a-gigantic-flameball-ey. Nice work!

Damn, you are on my watch list for quite a while and I really like your style. With this one I must add that I can not feel but sorry you didn't choose a more majestic aspect of a phoenix. Grumpyness isn't something a phoenix does - I think. Although after a few thousand deaths and rebirth I would probably feel quite fatalistic.
