Description PART 2: [link]

This is part of a commission I'm working on, but I thought I might as well do a tutorial while I'm at it! It's been a goal of mine for a longgg long time. Took forever!

I thought Trixie would make a good tutorial since this tackles both how I shape ponies and their extra accessories. Sorry if some of the instructions are vague! Feel free to ask me any questions if you're stuck.

If you want to try some of the same nifty tools I was using, I bought them all in a pack here: [link]

Materials:
Trixie/Hat/Cloak = Fimo polymer clay, soft
Eyes/Stars = Acrylic paint, 20/0 brush
Gloss = Varathane polyurethane interior varnish, water-based.

Oh thank you thank you thank you!

I have a special somepony (who isn't really my somepony yet) That I want to give them something handmade for christmas. I've never done polymer work before but I thought a handmade polymer pony would be nice to give them rather than just buying something that required no thought or effort. I'm so pleased there's a tutorial for making a polymer pony! Oh thank you! Hopefully it turns out okay xD

I am soo doing this! Thank you so much for the tutorial. Is the clay very messy to work with, I have three little ones I wanna teach to do it. 9-9 Daddies adorable little excuses to play well into my old age. XD

I am attempting this, however I am currently broke so I am doing it with clean river clay not sure how it will turn out but I will give it a try

I think any clay will do as long as you connect pieces together well (blending edges). FIMO is actually pretty hard to blend without distorting everything since it's overly soft, so that's why I use that wedge-like tool. River clay might actually be a little easier if it's sturdy and retains shape well during sculpting, and you can just paint in the colors afterwards.
Just my guess, but best of luck to you!

so far this clay is very soft getting things to stick together is not really that hard but keeping it wet and keeping the overall shape is what is a problem and I am covered in dog hair for some unknown reason, also I am not sure how I am going to get this to dry and keep it's shape oh well trial and error is the basis for most progress I guess.

Hey, I have a question about something on your etsy.
The Pinkie Pie shadowbox; where did you get the little box it's in? And what is it? I would love to try making one. C:

Oh my, 3 hours for a single pony? You're undercharging! D:

Oh, and does the metal tool you used to blend the ears in have a particular name? I could totally use one!

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

minnichi In reply to MilkCannon [2012-07-16 21:31:08 +0000 UTC]

Nah, I don't think I am haha It's mostly just for supply cost anyway!

Hmmm I don't know if it has an actual name...usually it always comes in a pack like that. Hobby Lobby sells smaller packs though and single tools sometimes so you could look there. But my guess for now is the tool is something like a "curved wedge..." I dunno. Hope this helped some though xD

Haha, that may actually work! I have a Hobby Lobby by my house, so I'll go check with them Thank you so much!
