I do enjoy painting backgrounds just as much as drawing characters. I've yet to do the 2 together though
But for now, i need to keep practicing. The idea.. whatever you imagine.- Photoshop CS2

Looks great but yeah, you should use references. As my instructors always tell us at school; "Use a reference or you will only come up with a new form of ass." Not that this is ass. I mean I obviously faved it.

I find it more fun using just imagination, doesn't take references to do speed paints imo.

True, you can create some pretty good stuff, as you have. It's just nice to get references from life and photos if you need to know textures and color and lighting/shading.
