I do enjoy painting backgrounds just as much as drawing characters. I've yet to do the 2 together though

it kinda reminds me of some spot in burning steppes or was it searing gorge, one of those places in WoW

Really nice, although the ground-spell-thingy really stand out as it mostly done by a few lines. I know this is a speedpaint, but in comparison to the rest of the image, they could have been a bit better.
Overall, a great image though.

Yeah i wasn't happy with the glowing lines too but i wanted to cap a set of these practices to 60mins. That extra 5mins was adding the people for scale ref lol. Thanks.

Aha, I see. Still, I'm intrigued with the process of doing this. Recently I have been toying with the practise of drawing without lineart, a concept which is new to me. So with that, I'd like to know how you started this image. I sat and stared at it for a couple minutes, thinking about a stable way to go about it, getting the right values and such. For instance, did you fill your canvas with a color? Or was it completely white and you blocked in the main shapes and went from there? I know there ain't any easy or even right way of doing things, but I'm curious how you go about it.

At first i wanted to do something desolate with an intense red. So i literally scribbled in a mid grey-brown covering most of the canvas, then added some lighter scribbles and from there i began to see some shapes i found interesting. At this point i found a vague idea so i started blocking the shapes in and then added a bright light-source and the magma lines came in next. After that was pretty much refining and rendering. Maybe i'll put up a process for my next speedpaint.

Ah, ok, that gives me somewhat a picture of how you went about with it, still, taking a few progression snapshots here and there to show us would be great, if you feel like doing it.
