Ahh yes, the lovely mermaid queen! I had such a debate within myself on which form I would do: human or mermaid? It was an internal struggle for about three months. Finally I decided "When am I ever going to be able to draw a mermaid again?!"
I don't even want to talk about those scales.

For a while I had this obsession that mermaids weren't all glitter and singing, but more reflective of deep-sea predators, so I reflected the design off that idea.

That's a nice drawing! However, I only focused on the main leading ladies of each movie. I left Ariel's sisters out because A) there are so many of them, and B) we don't know a whole lot about them.

Eventually I'm sure I will create a human version of Ariel, but I chose her mermaid form because it was something a little different than the rest of the princesses. Know what I mean?

Well, as I drew this I was watching the fake docunentary on mermaids, and in the film they all had sharp teeth to help them hunt and eat their prey. Plus I like them better than perfect human teeth.
