Back with a new OC and most likely there are more to follow soonI had this idea for this Oc in mind for a long time now, but never came around to really design her or decide on her quirk.
But I guess I had to get into the drawing process to really figure out where I wanted her to go, so now here she is ^^
As usual I will give a few background informations about her.
Summary :
Hikari is the typical girl next door. She's always friendly and polite to everyone around her and doesn't let herself be brought down by rude or mean behavior towards her. She's always keen on making new friends, though she is not paticulary popular. Most of the time she has a small group of people (3-5) that she sticks too in school, and outside of school she also has only a handful of close friends. Those stick to her through thick and thin and help her wherever they can. Hikari is as good as blind on both eyes and is only able to make out shadows of the things and people around her. Because of her handicap she often has to depend on other people for help, but she always likes to try everything herself first, unless she knows beforehand that it's something she can't achieve on her own. Hikari has no problem recieving help from others, but she also takes pride in being able to handle alot of things by herself. Given that one side of her quirk gives her the ability to heal wounds, she always insist on helping people that are hurt, but doesn't press on if they don't want her help. She understands how some people feel recieving aid from someone that is considered 'weak' by most. Hikari doesn't get into fights alot, but gets overly protective when she notices someone getting bullied or made fun of, and has no problem actually stepping in for them. Despite what alot of people may think, Hikari is far from weak and can handle most confrontations just fine, only once in a while being forced to back down, but in that case being backed up by one of her friends, who always seem to the there on the sideline, to look out for her. She appreciates them even more so for leaving her to handle things on her own, unless the situation really calls for them to step in. Since Hikari lost her eye sight at a very young age, she was able to adapt to the changes pretty fast, more so, her other senses were hightend to an almost 'superhuman' extent. Her hearing is especially great, as she can pick on the slightest sounds. Her smell his mostly normal to other peoples, but her sense of touch is hightend as well. This and the combination of her at least still being able to make out some silhouettes, makes sure she can get around mostly by herself. ( At home, School or other enclosed spaces. Open fields, streets and the city are an issue though, so she never goes to places like this on her own.)
Being blind, Hikari shouldn't actually be a canditate for U.A. , and the idea of visiting a hero school would have never crossed her mind if it wasn't for her Pro Hero Cousin, who saw a great potential in her quirk and other abilities. The main reasoning behind this idea was her ability to heal wounds, but also being able to fight to a certain extend, which would make her a useful asset in field, or rescue missions. More as a support, as her cousin pointed out. Her father was against this idea first, but hearing that Healer Heroes were kind of rare and it would benefit alot of people, Hikari stayed open to the suggestion. She did point out that she doesn't believe in getting accepted with her given disability, which made her Cousin promise her to get informations on that topic directly from U.A. since one of the teachers, were an old friend of hers. She also promised that if she was allowed to apply, she would make sure to give her a recommendation, to boost her chances of entry. From then on, Hikari started training with her Cousin, which saw fast improvements in her skills, thus being further encouraged by her idea. After talking with the school they hesitantly promised to let her try for the entrance exam. ( An old teacher of her cousin made sure to leave in a good word as well, trusting in the judgement of her former student). Hikari only barley past the physical exam, being the last place to be allowed to enter U.A, making the examiners more wary of the decision to accept her. ( She was allowed to take a oral exam, instead of the written one). There was some back an forth discussion about that matter between various people, judging if it will be worth it admitting her to the school, or if she is not doomed to fall behind her classmates quickly. After a personal conversation with the headmaster, they decided to let her attend the first class of the hero course, but told her that she could be moved to a supporting course anytime, should she not be able to live up to the achievements of the rest of her classmates. The school decided this way because they acknowledge that she would have a lot of potential to become a support hero, or maybe even becoming a fitting replacement for Recovery Girl (or whoever comes next), when the woman would take her leave. Their focus lays manly on her healing properties, which seemingly haven't reached their full potential yet. They are also contemplating if they should start a course for young people with quirks that aren't quite suited for a full own pro heroe career, but still would prove beneficial on the field. Since such a course doesn't exist yet, Hikari s placed in class 1A, with the purpose of monotoring her achievements and failures, to later decide if such a support hero course would make sense. ( Yes there is already a suppport course, but only for gadgets and such, not for a quirk). Hikari has no issue with the arrangement, and is instead happy to be able to prove herself and maybe open up a path for people like her, to pursue their dreams.
Family & History:
Until her quirk developed at age four, Hikari lived a happy life with her parents. But the timing her quirk manifested was kind of unfortunate, appearing in a short but very powerful way, while she was staring at a mirror. Her parents took her to a amusement park, which made sure that Hikari was overly excited and happy, that day. It was a warm, sunny summerday, and they had been walking around alot, when they stopped at a carnival like attraction with those mirrors that change the shape of your reflextion. Hikari had fun looking in all of them and just stepped infront of the last mirror, when her quirk all of a sudden surfaced, making her emitt a very bright flash of light all over, blinding her almost completely in an instant. As fast as it happend it was over again, and her parents, alarmed by the pained cry of their daughter, were only able so catch a small glimp of glow emitting from her, while she was crying in agony, holding her eyes. A trip to the doctor later confirmed, that not only did Hikaris quirk manifested, but it blinded her on both eyes. At that point they were not sure if she would be able to see even small shadows. After having to adjust to a completely new livestyle, Hikaris mom left her and her father four years later, without much of any goodbye. Her father only explained to his daughter that her mother told him she was too pained to watch her child suffer like this. Even though Hikari was hurt, she was never able to bring her self to actually hate her mother, even though she doesn't understand her reasoning at all. Since that, it always has been only the two of them, her father being pretty overprotective over her, but trying to give her more pace, if she asks for it. Their relationship to each other is really strong, and other than having to raise her all by himself, her father did well and they lead a good life. After the first devestation of her quirk taking something so precious as the daylight away from her, Hikari slowly started to try out her quirk more, also to be able to controll it and make sure something like what happend to her, wouldn't happen to anyone else. Her father, who has also a sun/light related quirk, helped her with that to the best of his abilites. Hikari was homeschooled for the first part of her life until she begged her father to let her attend middle school, which after some consideration and a careful pick of school, he allowed her to do so. Even though Hikari seemed to be a perfect target to be picked on, she got lucky with most of her classmates, only two of them trying to bully her, but getting scolded und confronted for it, by the rest of the class. Hikari only then was able to make her first friends in ages, since she lost all of her childhood friends after the incident with her eyes. She is still good friends with a few of her old classmates and makes an effort to stay in contact with them, even with the busy life she has now, while attending U.A.
Quirk/Hero Costume/Hero Name:
Hikari's quirks allowes her to absorb sunlight/moonlight to fight/heal. The absorbtion happens naturally, so whenever Hikari goes out into the sun, she charges up. The same happens with the moonlight, which is why she tends to have her bed near the window and curtains never drawn while she sleeps. Hikari prefers the moonlight to the sunlight, first of all because of what happend with her eyes and she thinks that side of her quirk is more of a destructive nature. Secondly because if she spends too much time in the sun when she's already absorbed as much as she can handle, her skin startes to heat up rapidly, to the point were it can cause her to burn( like a burnmark), all over. The moonlight on the otherhand always leaves her in a refreshed and energized way, not harming her in the slightest. She used to not really pay attention to her light creating abilites, before applying for U.A., only training it enough to make sure not to accidently blind or burn someone. Seeing as Japans summers can get very hot and her quirk could actually burn her, she tries to avoid going out around that time too much, opting for places with more shade. She only started training it more after the suggestion of attending a hero school. Her costume is designed for her to absorb enough light, without being to revealing. The chackels are in place for her to use and direkt or spread her light, if neccessary. She also carries a small bag on the back, where she keeps thinks like lenses, to give her more options on how to use her quirk. She is able to control wether she ermitts light all over her body, or only on certain parts, mostly her hands. She can also controll the intensity of how strong the light is, which at first wasn't easy for her to do, beeing almost completely blind. But she learned it by focusing on the slight shadows she still can see and compering their intensity, making her able to get a better grip on how bright her light is. She trained her healing more, since she always liked helping other people. She mostly offered to heal boys in her class ( them getting hurt more often thant the girls), testing out her abilities this way. So far, she can heal small wounds up to bigger open wounds, without much of a problem, if she had absorbed enough moonlight the night before. She also noticed that the absorbtion doesn't mean she can use it whenever she wants to, but the powers will get lost, if she doesn't recharge often enough. If she runs out of energy while healing, it will take a great toll on her system, depending on the day and her health, leading from a slight dizziness to fainting. Once she runs out of power, the healing process stops immediatly, her not being able to manipulate that in any other way than recharging. Also, regarching while healing turned out to be a rather risky thing, which could also lead to her fainting, or the wound being healed improperly. Up until now it is not clear how big of wounds Hikari can heal, if she could maybe even let limps grow back or heal even very old scars. Its clear though that she can only heal wounds, not diseases. She also tried healing her eyes once, but wasn't able to succeed. For her hero outfit, the other noteable thing are her boots, which are designed for her to catch even the slightest vibration of the ground, being able to tell where her component is. An off the ground attack is trickier, since she has to soley focus on the shadows she can make out. Hikari is also in talk of getting a special head gadget with a eye visor, with integrated camera and headset, which would allow another person to see her surroundings for her and inform her on whats going on. For now though the teachers decided that they wanna see how far Hikari can push forward on her own. Her Hero Name has a hidden meaning of 'light of the world' and is also a slight play of her name taking the U and ga from Umega away and adding a L in front of it instead. Its also quite close to her nick name, with friends often calling her Ume-san.
As always I would love to hear your opinions about her
I know this is quite a far streched, with her quirk and special placement in U.A., ( not that special with Aizawa as a teacher tho) but I kind of wanted to try something different.
Izuku is struggeling with his new powers after being quirkless, which made him look like he was weaker than others.
I wanted to see if I could integrate a character, that actually has a quite promising quirk and is gifted in that way, but is missing something else crutial, in place of that.
Anyways I hope you like her haha

That is an amazing concept. All I got is a character with a Plazma conduit quirk, one like Mass Effect's Biotics, and a Sniper scope eye
