Description in the quiet of computer light it comes back rushing:
the hinges tear, and water
covers you

in the choke of sea reeds, rust-eaten holes
you slip past the boundaries
of your outline — you are everyone
with the tremble
of light in their lungs
shaking
in the thrum of words
you surge metaphor, light
attempts to escape
your dry mouth

and spill

you are everyone
who swallows sky
until our stomachs split

whose veins expand like ivy
our bodies cracked statues
pouring new growth

with arms outstretched, you stand
in bare atmosphere
the tails of comets
scream their song
and you rise
and you rise

then return to this planet
breathing glass

locked

in the passenger side
of stone skin

sleep flees your eyes
except bus-shelter bursts
and the slow ache of light pollution
hardening into frostbite

as you try
to tell yourself to strangers,
to justify the static of your skin
to the robed figure
standing over your bed

and after, how you try
to scratch their fingerprints off you
and to scratch your fingerprints off you

you stand
smoked out and throat deep
in rivers, waiting
for an obliteration of sunrise

only the white sky
to shape these echoes,
this fear —

not the way the night can swallow you
but the way
it never quite does.
