Description
I know that this looks horrible, which is why it will soon be sent to the "Scraps" pile, but I figured that I'd post it up for you guys to see beforehand. While scanning Who Framed Roger Rabbit? one day for expressions to draw, I stopped at the sequence where Roger and Eddie are conversing in the theatre and decided to play a piece of it in slow motion. I never noticed just how charming some of those stills were until I watched it frame-by-frame that night (sometimes you just have to slow down a scene to really appreciate all the subtle little details that animators include in their sequences). Not long afterwards I heard my sketchbook screaming to me in the background, so I obeyed the call and proceeded to "shut it up".
This was kind of a personal test to see if I could convey the transition of one emotion to the next in just a few quick sketches. There were some problems with this, though. First of all, when I showed the sequence to my mom, she said that I picked a really difficult set of extremes to capture because there were basically extremes on top of extremes, not to mention the fact that the acting itself was pretty subtle. I kind of figured that. I do tend to challenge myself in this manner quite often, even if I do it unwittingly. Secondly, the range of emotions here isn't that... thick. I mean, he's basically melancholy for the first four frames until his mannerism begins to shift, and then when it does shift to one of forgiveness it's too harsh of a transition -- I skipped ahead to the last frame too soon. All-in-all, however, it was a good exercise, I thought.
What do you think?

the first 5 sketches were smooth in transition but there seems to be a missing link between 5 and 6, nonetheless, they're quite good!

Agreed. The character's transition from depressed to hopeful is very fast in that moment in the film, but you are right in that something is missing. I should have made the switch more gradual.
Thanks for the advice and kind comment!

that's how roger is, he's pretty much has a sanguine personality- optimistic, friendly, likes to be in a center of attention, talkative, loud and quickly changing from tears to cheers are some that proves his specific temperament.

I always loved that scene when Roger is sad XD
But then turns cute when he asked Eddie if he was really sorry for yanking his ears X3

I always adored it, too. It's moments like that that really make you fall in love with a character.
