Oh man, I need to actually read the book so bad. Found the old cartoon a few nights ago, watched it, and now I'm in a Lord of the Rings/Hobbit kick.
Love this. Your style is rad. And the Gollum panel is what made me love this even more. It just captures his... insanity...

It is a really excellent book. Non-stop classic fantasy action! The Gollum panel is my favorite too.
