I'm glad to hear you are coming off Those can be quite the tricky little demons. They are supposed to help, yet can digger you in an even deeper abyss. Slippery slope, indeed. I love how you apply so many things into one cohesive piece. I have always wanted to learn all these cool computer techniques, yet lack the funds to obtain such higher quality goods, and a computer strong enough to handle it. LOL. Your hardwork pays off

yes they were helpful, but i dont want to have such a crutch any more, the techniques with digital art are much different to trad painting, and colours mixe differently but many principles inherent to painting remain the same just knowing though how to use masks and layers and colour adjustments really still all goes over my head so i am incredibly amateur at the moment until i hcan better incorporate those things. A powerful computer is definitely a must, but i wouldnt say i have the most powerful computer - i do alot on my asus laptop. hmm i have found that buying oil paints can be just as expensive as buying a laptop. i think sometimes just using good pencils like Derwents can also create great work - drawing with warm reds and black paper just fires the mind looking at it. 93 93/93

I feel that what most people overlook is that anti-deppresants are a volatile mix of drugs that mess with the brain. They still hand them out to young children, even though results show that this will actually CAUSE suicidal tendencies and attempts. They push these pills until this kid dies, and then they just move on to the next, without stopping production. Without a care in the world. It is just a guessing game, this medicinal world. However, the drugs that are shown to be very effective at produces calming results (herbals like marijuana), are banned out-right and made illegal. Then, they spend billions of dollars telling people "Our drugs are good, those are bad" propaganda and make people end up hating what could potentially help them. Rediculous. I am very happy for you that you are coming off of them. It was, actually the sanest move I ever made, stopping taking them. Everything in my life (of course, I am not trying to say my results will match yours, or be your doctor) was made infinitely better and became so uplifting. In my opinion, while photoshop may be beautiful and produce such amazing results, it is cheating. It is a valid "medium" however, one cannot take away from the awe-inspiring power of actually picking up a pencil or paint brush and creating such eye-opening and soul-awakening works of art. I am really looking forward to getting to my new place and setting up my paint studio. Perhaps, anxious is the word? If you ever need to talk to someone about what you may be going through, message me sometime. I would be more than happy to help

93 cheers,
i agree, although Photoshop is only cheating in so far as you do need to prime a canvas and also if you made an error or unhappy with the overall composition you can retrace your steps more easily - but the work is the same and the amount of hours required is still taxing. The perception that photoshop is at all easy to use or that the computer can do it for you is not correct- you still have layer down layers and layers of virtual paint - it is also the case that to do artwork sized pictures and detailed ones at that you have to put down all the detail yourself - nothing else can do that for you - unless your work is more of a design like piece and you are using set patterns.
It is also a benefit to be able to produce alot of work with photoshop without the expense of buying art supplies - All this said, digital art is probably more at home with concept and illustration work - which is what i would love to be doing and why i have gotten involved with it more now. It will never fetch the price of an oil or gouache painting but one can do a splendid exhibition too if teh displayed work is limited in its editions and framed well - or set to canvases - i recently saw this in a local exhibition and i was quite impressed with the result.
I am currently doing a work on the Gnostic Saints - and it has been going over a number of weeks - just doing 3 portraits here and there every couple of days as it will take about an hour to do each one, plus the extra time for the Babalon Priestess figure -at the end of it, regardless of ones medium if it is an original work, i can stand on its own regardless of whether it is low-art or high-art.

93 Oh I completely agree that the work is still taxing and at times a pain in the ass. You have to pay close attention just as much as you do if sketching. I just prefer the real medium, as digital won't last forever. Sure, a painting can be burned and a sculpture broken; but if the power goes out, you know that item is still there, in your hands. Very much the same reason why I will probably never own a Kindle. I want the read book in my hands. I have all the resources for Crowley at my fingertips with the internet, but I want the book in my hands so I can flip the pages and smell the paper and ink. I can close the book and put it on my shelf. I can bring the book with me everywhere and I am not relying on a computer to read. Or battery life for that matter, lol.
Everyone I know is turning to electronic medium, and it just makes me harken back to the days where "digital" and "internet" were still so queer in everyone's eyes. The norm was going to a friend's house, not checking their "farm" on Farmville. The norm was playing games with friends in the living room, not playing online with people who could really give two rats about you. Even though I kick myself a little too hard sometimes about my art, I prefer hand to paper. That is not to say I do not like digital medium, just one browse through my favourites will reveal that I LOVE it. Something just resonates with me more, with tangible objects.
Good luck with the project! I am actually excited to see it! Sounds like a great idea.
Yes, regardless of the chosen texture, if the art is GOOD and THOUGHTFUL art, then it can stand on its own, even if it is from Legos.

i cant give up physical books either even though it makes an move ever the more cumber - i have eight bookshelves and still not enough room and still ther eare more books on the way - there is a bad habit in here somewhere but it is not the books themselves - troves of wisdom and learning, of poetry and of art of seals and circles keys and tales

I have all these bookshelves, yet I seem to keep finding more and more books! I am very thankful to the Aeon, that I have been put in a position to be able to finally afford these books. I went from not being able to afford a $4 movie from the cheap bin, to procuring the hardest to obtain Crowley books. I'm finally building my library, and that means I seem to always be trying to find more shelf space! Books on Thelema, art, illustration, poetry, and much more. I am not really one for fiction too much. I only have a few of those. However, if it has anything to do with theory and practice ( ), you'd better believe I am looking into it!
