Description
This is my newest piece - apologies for not submitting anything for such a long time! There is so much going on in this piece in terms of personal symbology and meaning that is going to be a bit of a challenge to break this down...let's keep it simple then!
In theory, Love between two people should be about flying together, side by side. At some point, Love and affection for a person could turn into an obsession that holds both lovers prisioner.
That's why my girl here is turning from happy, blue skies to another realm, holding tight a heart that does not need to be kept chained, cuz it would follow her anyways.
Graphically, it's pastels again on Fabriano paper, probably my favourite media
By the way, the title is not "Mine", it's "MIIIINE!!!!!!!!!!!!" but DA won't let me type it.

It's funny that the place she is turning to is green;which is symbolic of jealousy and can kill love right on the spot. I don't know if that has anything to do with Fauvism, just an observation.
The possessiveness of this girl is really evident in her expression, and the grip she has so tight on the object you can't see what it is.
Too bad about quotes;they really do make a title (I know what you mean about that )
Haha, and I see you have the Asian fever my friend!

The Green colour as a symbol of jealousy was an unintended effect, I just wanted to add some green to the piece, but I'm glad it can be interpreted as part of the theme. About the Fever, it's more of a genuine interest in the culture...and let's just say I had plenty of time to observe and learn asian features (not to offend the rest, but Asian girls I've met are very pretty and nice!)
Thank you so much for taking the time to run thorugh my gallery, it means the world to me.

You're welcome;it was a fun journey.
I see that you were in Japan for awhile?
My husband is the same way,he likes the Asian features too.I liked blond fellows. So it worked out perfectly for us!

Yes, I have travelled to Japan several times - I'd happily relocate if there was such opportunity (Not Tokyo, though! I can't deal with overcrowded trains!). Happy for you and your husband! I can relate to your situation as I've been dealt a similar hand
I'd be lying if I said I didn't prefer Asian features but I do not limit myself artistically to just draw Asian features, it's probably a stage I'm at now. Maybe I should write a journal to clarify my history with the Asian Continent as it's come up so many times in comments here at DA!

It would be an interesting read. Please do when you have time.
Japan would be a fun trip to take. I'm glad for you too!
As long as I can remember,I haven't ever been attracted to Asian men. I think a lot of it had to do with the fact my brother and I grew up around Caucasian people.I am also far too Westernized. I have no knowledge of half the stuff some of my Chinese friends talks about.

I'm in the middle of writing the journal, it's hard to encapsulate so much in a few paragraphs! I can see now, if you've attended high school with mostly caucasian, that could have been part of your development. I think mixed couples are great because they are the future of the world: London is an example of this, there is so much variety and tolerance compared to , say, Milwaukee, where I didn't see a lot of that.
Take care and have a nice weekend

I guess it would be!
The odd thing about is I didn't really get a lot of razzing about being Chinese. I got way more teasing when I got my glasses.
But my friend who grew up in Vancouver where there a lot of Asians said her and her brothers were picked on growing up. I thought that was really strange.
London would be a veritable melting pot much like Vancouver. The States is very different.Seattle or Portland are quite accepting. But the further in you go I think it's less tolerant.

Sorry for the late reply!
I don't understand why people get crap for wearing glasses! thanks god I have been blessed w/ good vision, but I am way nerdier than some people I know that wear glasses. In fact, one of my friends wears glasses and he is super volatile!!
I remember people in Seattle were really sweet when I passed by Seattle (I took a bus from Seatac to Vancouver when I went there). I always dreamed of living in the Northwest because a couple of my teen heroes are from there ore lived there at some stage of their lives. I'm also very interested in North West native american culture - you're lucky to have it right at your doorstep!

Oh,no worries!
You're like my husband;he has perfect vision. He would hardly ever lose sight of a golf ball whenever he played on the course.
It's a rich and wonderful culture and I loved reading the stories about Raven,Loon, Mouse Woman and all the others.
But it's a dying art in most cases.Master artisans are finding that some of the next generation don't want to carry it down. So they will teach anyone willing to learn.
I met a guy at the Vancouver gift show, who was teaching a Chinese fellow how to do the Haida Gwai'i style of art.
I asked him why And worse, they didn't care.
So this Chinese fellow carved part of a house post that went up in front of a hotel.
If you ever come back, you'll have to go the UBC Museum of Anthropology (if you didn't go there the last time).
It has our largest collection of Norwest Coast First nations art, and sculptures by the famous Bill Reid.

Your husband is lucky as I still fear for my eyesight. All these years of architectural detail drafting and staring at a computer screen 8 h. daily are like taking the fast lane. If I ever get glasses, they gotta have panache
About Haida Art, I remember when I went there I bought a few post cards w/ art work that was quite recent (I was expecting these post cards to be reproductions of old art). My favourite one had this killer whale in it
Your story about the Chinese Artist carving is interesting. Someone has to continue the tradition and it is fortunate that someone took the interest to preserve it. This is a recurring dilemma when it comes to traditions and I really think it's better they survive anyhow rather than dissapear. I'll definitelly visit the museum. I have seen Bill Reid's stuff on the internet, gotta see it in real life!
Thanks for the tips

You're welcome. You would love to see those pieces. UBC's centerpiece is Bill Reid's "Raven and The First Men" where he finds the first humans in a clam shell. It's got to be over 6 feet tall and you can view it from 360 degrees. It's quite something!
I think you'll have a quite a few good years left with your eyes!
And anyhow the choices for glasses are much better these days!

I think I have seen that Raven one you mention in one of my Art Books - it's awesome. If I could choose my glasses, I would go for a bright green plastic frame
