Description
This is my first completed Oils piece...not completed because it`s perfect but completed because I feel I cannot touch it anymore.I called this piece "No Ghost" because my first Oil Self Portrait was called "The Ghost". I threw it away today because I hated it: I messed it up beyond recognition and it was depressive. Somehow I find this piece full of calm determination, way more dignified than the sorry, sad self I painted last week.
This piece was exhilarating to do: I did it all in 4 hours and I took a break in the middle to bake some brownies (a really good batch, by the way). With this piece I feel I may have found a style I could live with for the following months.

Stopping painting when it feels 'right' is almost an art in itself. The painted you conveys determination well, it's in the eyes again, you always use your techniques so well to fill your paintings eyes with emotion.

Love the brush strokes on this. I adore things that look unfinished, or have unfinished edges, and I rarely see that in oils, since the medium tempts you to overwork it so much. So it's lovely to see.
It looks so alive...

Thank you very much for picking that up. I had a similar comment from another friend who paints and I have to say, I can`t believe I managed to force myself to put that brush down on time! Thanks to your comment and other feedback I will explore this further in the future. THANK YOU!!

It's interesting to find that look on a real person.

Hey! nice to see you! well, yes there has been a slight improvement but at the cost of about 3 canvases and two watercolour paper blocs! The brownies are gone already.
