Description This is another early attempt at drawing Transformers by me. This is the Decepticon Triple-Changer Astrotrain who was one of my favorites as a kid.

He was almost as arrogant as Starscream was in a couple of episodes of the original Transformers cartoon.

I know I have the entire series and animated film on DVD.

The thing with Astrotrain's arrogance was it was usually overshadowed by his being an angry thug at heart. He seemed to want to be the smart guy in the room but he could never pull it off because his solutions always fell back on using brute force rather than an actual plan.Β

You make some interesting points. I also have the complete series and animated 1986 film on DVD. Although, my copy of the movie is slightly dated. I'm considering buying the Blu Ray version sometime in the near future. Β

Thank you

You should totally get it. I got whatever the last Anniversary Edition was and they remastered and restored everything in the film and it looks and sounds beautiful. I also got the entire Challenge of the Go-Bots series except for the Rock Lords movie which I hope they release here on DVD. I literally have not seen that one since I was a kid.

You're welcome and yes, I am considering getting a copy of TFTM on Blu Ray for Christmas maybe. I've only seen three episodes of Challenge of the Gobots on VHS nearly a year ago. Btw, I though that hey did release it in the United States on DVD? Or am I wrong?

Challenge of the Go-Bots is unintentionally hilarious so if you get the chance to get the DVD's I highly recommend that series.

The full mini series and both seasons of the regular series came out from Warner Brothers earlier this year or last. So far they haven't released the DVD here as far as I've found. I looked for it on Amazon but all I could find was the UK version and it was a little pricey to get it sent here.Β

Oh, so it was released on DVD in the UK, interesting. I'm from the UK.

I know, I saw on your page when I gave you the llama.

I had the same issue with Inhumanoids. I could only get the UK DVD set since the American one is long out of print. Also I had to get the MASK Australian box set because the US one was wrapped up in red tape for ages because of rights issues. In a way it's good that I got it because it had the horrible "Racing Episodes" included and when the US release finally happened they weren't included.Β

SomeΒ DVDs that I had to purchase from other countries (such as the Transformers: Animated boxset from the US) because they weren't released in the UK.Β A few months ago, I bought a region free DVD player to play any imported DVDs.

I did the same. I used to have a really great region free program on my PC called AnyDVD by Slysoft but the company went under after I got a lifetime membership for this damn thing and the new company didn't honor the original customer purchases.Β

A Chinese company owns it now and apparently they aren't trustworthy since my credit card company immediately blocked my purchase from them and cancelled my card and sent me a new one.

I found another one but it also proved to be just as bad so I've pretty much given up on the whole region free program stuff for now.Β

It's okay. I mean the only downside is I can't get anymore DVD screen caps from my UK and Aussie disks but the US ones still work. I figure it's only a matter of time until someone makes a safe Region Free program again.Β

I still have a Region Free DVD player hooked to my TV so I can still watch my disks at least.

I see, so what why's you need a Region Free program on your computer. I get it now.

Yeah so I'm just going to wait for a new one to come around. Hopefully it will be as good as the SlySoft one used to be.

I tried playing my Transformers Animated Region 1 DVD boxset on my laptop the other week and it worked fine.

MJMJR In reply to Soundwave364674 [2017-09-24 23:26:06 +0000 UTC]

yeah but with most PCs and Laptops you have a limit of 5 changes you can make to a drive before the region lock engages and it becomes whatever that last region was permanently.Β

This program overrides that lock so that no matter what it just plays and the drive stays multi region and never locks.Β

Soundwave364674 In reply to MJMJR [2017-09-25 18:22:18 +0000 UTC]

That's right. Thinking about it, I do remember there being some option to change the region and I chose region 1 at the time. Btw, sounds awfully complicated and disappointing, like most things in life. You obviously know more than me.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MJMJR In reply to Soundwave364674 [2017-09-25 19:15:03 +0000 UTC]

I know because I had a drive freeze on the UK DVD region on me on an old PC and I had to use that region free program to unlock it Β

Its not even exactly clear why they have the region codes in place anymore since new technology makes them irrelevant. So I don't see why they even put region locks on any device at this point since they're essentially obsolete.Β

Soundwave364674 In reply to MJMJR [2017-09-26 22:59:54 +0000 UTC]

Wow, that's even worse than having it freezed on your DVD region. Btw, let me know if you find another safe region free DVD program. I might consider using one.

Could you explain to me exactly how the region lock technology is obsolete, please?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MJMJR In reply to Soundwave364674 [2017-09-29 21:32:08 +0000 UTC]

Because with digital technology as it is now and people being able to download things from across the world it negates the region lock. On top of that many Blu Ray and HD Ultra Disks don't even bother encoding them anymore because people can get a hold of their media so easily off the internet.Β

I thought Blitzwing was the cooler triple-changer myself.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MJMJR In reply to CorSecAgent [2013-09-27 00:38:04 +0000 UTC]

I like Blitzwing but growing up, Astrotrain mixed a lot of my favorite things all into one. I loved trains and I had family that worked for the railroad, I loved the space shuttle and space exploration in general, black and purple are a fave color combo of mine and he's a giant robot with a huge ass gun. So there was a lot about him I loved

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

CorSecAgent In reply to MJMJR [2013-09-27 01:09:00 +0000 UTC]

I can understand that. The character made very little sense from a logistics POV though. I mean, were there little Decepticon helpers laying track as he went or what? Was he generating the tracks as he went? Blitzwing just made more sense in either form. Now, you want toys that made hardly any sense - Twin Twist and Top Spin.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MJMJR In reply to CorSecAgent [2013-09-27 10:15:24 +0000 UTC]

No he used Earth's rail systems when in train mode but he could also derail himself and travel on land. I mean he didn't give a shit if his wheels were slicing the roads up If you read the series All Hail Megatron Astrotrain puts his train form to good use by using it to find humans hiding in the subway tunnels of New York and destroying them.

Twin-Twist and Topspin were still in their Cybertron forms. They were basically just under Blurr in speed and their specialties were fast attack hit and run tactics. The toy gimmick was just to have TFs that could transform themselves.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

CorSecAgent In reply to MJMJR [2013-09-27 10:23:40 +0000 UTC]

And that's the operative word - gimmick. I though Twin Twist was novel for about five seconds and the it was just the same BS over and over until he refused to stay in vehicle mode any longer.

I didn't even know they made a new one. I haven't collected Transformers in years. I mostly read the IDW Transformers comics.
