Description

Well you all voted for a Castlevania art piece from me and here it is.

I wanted to keep it as close to the original NES game as possible but also flesh everything out so it would be more realistic. Because of that I used the NECA action figures as well as the original NES game sprites and levels as references and sort of mashed them up into what you see here.

With Simon I used his action figure and statue as the main references but based all the colors on the yellow and brown game sprite of Simon from the NES. The only thing I changed was I made him sort of a dirty strawberry blonde instead of straight up brown like the game sprite because all the original game booklets and box art for the games and his action figures are blonde. Β

With Dracula I combined his Symphony of the Night look with the original NES game sprite. I made him clean shaven since the first two or three NES games always had him clean shaven with grayish white or black hair. I went with grayish white since the game sprite has gray hair but added length to it since the original sprite looks like his hair is flowing off the side of his giant purple/pink head.

For the setting I did my take on the final level’s Castle Keep using screen caps of the original game level as well as some castle interiors from a Google Image search. Since the entire room is essentially all black I kept it as dark as possible but also tried to add some creepy elements to it. I wanted it to look more three dimensional, spacious and elongated like most every level in the game seems.

Finally I drew the action based one of the best strategies used in the actual game to defeat Dracula.

Thanks to everyone for voting.

Awesome. Can't wait for season 2 of Castlevania on Netflix. Some fans didn't like it, but I loved it.Β

Yeah, it's an animated series. Only 4 episodes in season 1, but season 2 is supposed to have 8 episodes when it comes out. It's based on Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse. Pretty violent and lots of foul language.Β Β

I absolutely love the originals with the exception of Simon's Quest but that was mostly because of the horrible translations in the game and lack of an explanation for the items in the game. Still I adore the music from it.

I played Castlevania on my old, old, very old Game Boy ... never made it to Dracula. That game was so hard!!!

The Castlevania Adventure! Oh dear God that one was a fucking nightmare. I had it too I made it to the last level but died on this goddamn spears that would shoot out of the wall to make platforms. By the time I made it that far I was down to one life

So I got close with that one but never finished it. My Gameboy got crushed under my bed when the cheap ass frame broke.Β

I did beat the original Castlevania and I got really far in Castlevania 3, Super Castlevania 4 and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night.Β

I'm not even sure how far I made it in that game. But I remember the music, which was awesome. Old game boy games always had great music in my opinion.

My Game Boy just died. The display stopped working. It was really sad.

Castlevania Adventure was the only game from that series that I ever played. Don't know somehow that series just didn't interest me that much.

The music in Castlevania is always amazing. I hate Castlevania 2 but I adore the theme from it.

Aww that sucks. I think the new ones are pretty cheap and they can play all the old games but I am unsure.Β

Its one of those games where you will make really great progress for the first half and then it progressively gets more and more insane to the point where the enemies and booby traps just become the bane of your existence. The key to that whole series is timing and using the right special weapons at the right stages. For me the Holy Water and the Boomerang are probably the best for most of the game.Β

I highly recommend the original Castlevania and Castlevania III if you ever get them on a Nintendo Emulator.Β

I think I got to Orlock's Quarters or somewhere around there. It's been years since I played it and I think I need to get it on disk because I had to delete the downloaded version on my PS3 to make room for all the GTA5 updates

Thankfully the PS3 has an internal memory card. I always hated having to keep track of those things.Β
