Description
This was another of the many photographs I took while visiting San Antonio this past weekend. The Alamo (which was originally part of a Spanish mission known as the Misión San Antonio de Valero) is probably the best-known tourist attraction in the city, and in Texas history, was the site of a memorable battle for Texan independence from Mexico. Everybody-and-their-mother certainly photographs the iconic front of the chapel when they come to visit, so I wanted to do something a bit different with this. I removed its color, then added a faint sepia tone to make the photo feel aged. I also boosted light levels by either 10 or 15% in the shadows to bring out some of the details obscured by the trees at the right, and dimmed mid-tone contrast by 50% to give more definition to the texture of the stone (which sounds like the opposite of what I'd need to do, but that's what happened).
(And for anyone who is wondering about the title, "Remember the Alamo" is a phrase that has become just as famous as the building itself. Feel free to look up its history if you feel inclined.)

I just watched a bit on the Alamo the other day. On the History channel or something similar. You've definitely accomplished what you set out to do. The photo looks old timey and historical. Because of it, I recognized what it was instantly. Even if I would have still recognized it in color, the black and white adds to the oldness of it I suppose.

It wouldn't have been as visually striking in color, I think.
