I thought of this idea yesterday. I was listening to the Billy Joel song "We Didn't Start the Fire" and realized it was a nice chronicle of what has happened in the last fifty years or so. I was also browsing through pictures of the Vietnam Memorial Wall and decided it would be rather interesting to combine the two motifs. Like the Wall, there are two long black walls in the picture with writing on them. But this one chronicles the things described in the Billy Joel song, in a suitable format.

All this work was compiled in Photoshop with a little elbow grease. It took me a little while to figure out the ideal combination of filters that would give me a Wall-like look, including the path and grass at its base. (Those lines in the path had to be traced by hand and I think I screwed up in a few places.) I initially wanted to make the background a regular blue sky but as I thought about what this work was to mean, I tried giving it a setting sun look that turned out to look more like the smoke billowing from a fire, which works out pretty well.

The original picture is larger than the full-size image I give here, and I'm gonna make this my first print offered for sale. I doubt anyone will buy it, but meh.
