Description
Model is NoriThis was shot with 2 large softboxes on either side of Nori, as she hung by her leg against a grey paper sweep. The rope around her ankle was tied to a steel I-beam in the studio ceiling so I was pretty sure she wouldn't fall.
OK, just kidding!! This was shot with 2 large softboxes on either side of Nori, as she lay on a grey paper sweep. The rope around her ankle was tied to a lead weight to hold it straight and I climbed up on a ladder and shot downward at her. Then I rotated the image in photoshop.

I was browsing through your gallery (note: got directed to you through randomness) when this caught my eye... it caught a fave, too!
Can you give me a few tips? I'm still kind of in the process of finding my style of photography and I really want to broaden my horizons as much as I could in this very short time I have with a digital slr....
... if it's not too much for you, sir, that is.

Why do you want a style? Just shoot what looks good to you. Eventually you'll realize that's your style. To get there, do some thinking about what you like to look at, yourself, and see if that gives you any ideas what you want to shoot. Go read: [link]

That was a VERY cool book. Pervez-Reverte is one of my favorite writers. By the way, if you liked "Dumas Club" you might enjoy the "Rule of Four"

The Hanged Man, is it not?
Well, it'd be a woman in this case but The Traitor /was/ originally Judas Escariot. ^_^
I'd have to agree with everyone else who's commented so far.

I just watched the movie the Ninth Gate the other day. So I recognised this: [link] Was this your inspiration? Interesting stuff.

mjranum In reply to eriksucks [2006-11-01 18:08:41 +0000 UTC]
Nope, my inspiration was a combination of the tarot card (hanged man) posture and a similar photographic trick I saw another artist do where he has this model who appears to be balancing on a small object stuck from a wall but of course it was just rotated.

The title, description and image just work so well together I love it when artists make use of the description to add to the art, instead of just putting ". . ." as the description.
